Un giovane soldato pattuglia la zona intorno al vulcano Erta Ale come misura precauzionale contro potenziali agguati a causa delle continue tensioni tra l'Etiopia e la vicina Eritrea. Il vulcano è attualmente attivo ed in eruzione ma quando il vento spinge il gas tossico dal lato opposto, è possibile avvicinarsi fino al bordo del cratere e guardare giù nel calderone fiammeggiante di lava.
