Iphiclides podalirius (Linneaus 1758) Dimensioni: è una farfalla di grandi dimensioni ( mm.32-40). Apertura alare: 70 - 80 mm. Descrizione della specie: nome comune Podalirio La parte superiore ha ali anteriori con colore di fondo giallo pallido con sottili fasce trasversali a forma di V (in alcune varietà il colore di fondo è quasi bianco e le fasce nere sono molto più marcate); le ali posteriori hanno macchie blu che terminano dove iniziano le lunghe code, inoltre sul margine interno è presente una macchia ocellata arancione e azzurra. In alcune varietà il colore di fondo può essere bianco e le fasce essere di un nero marcato. È una specie termofila con buona tendenza migratoria. Il volo avviene da marzo a settembre, nelle aree aperte e/o coltivate, ma provviste di copertura arboreo-arbustiva. Dimorfismo sessuale: assente. Può avere 2-3 generazioni annue. Il bruco ha una forma che ricorda una piccola limaccia, ha il corpo verde con linee gialle ed è spesso macchiato di rosso. Piante nutrici del bruco: Rosaceae (prugnoli, biancospini e alberi da frutto, Prunus spinosa). Distribuzione e habitat: La specie frequenta le foreste temperate e le pianure assolate fino a circa i 1700 m di quota, ma sta risentendo della rarefazione delle siepi in pianura. Diffusa in Europa, Africa settentrionale, Asia temperata e parte della Cina; in Italia è presente ovunque dalle zone di pianura a quelle montuose, foreste e pianure, ambienti aperti e soleggiati dalla pianura alla media montagna. 0-1600 m. Estinta in Lussemburgo. Periodo di attività: Periodo di sfarfallamento: da marzo a settembre con una o più generazioni annuali in accordo con la latitudine.
