La Porta Ticinese è una delle porte maggiori poste sul tracciato medievale delle mura di Milano Conosciuta anche come Porta Cicca, dal momento che era l'unica delle porte cittadine ad avere una sola apertura, venne pesantemente rimaneggiata nel 1861 da Camillo Boito, che ne aprì i due fornici laterali, conferendole il suo aspetto attuale. L'antica Porta Ticinese medioevale, assieme agli archi di Porta Nuova in via Manzoni, è l'unica sopravvivenza delle antiche mura milanesi dell'XI secol La Porta Ticinese Medievale si colloca tra l'omonimo corso e la piazza antistante la Basilica con le Colonne di San Lorenzo. In origine faceva parte della cerchia muraria del XII secolo costruita dopo le incursioni del Barbarossa: insieme agli archi di Porta Nuova è attualmente l'unica sopravvissuta di quell'assetto difensivo. Al tempo si affacciava sul naviglio e stretta da due possenti torrioni (di cui il destro monco) con un unico passaggio centrale: un grande arco a tutto sesto in conci di pietra. L'aspetto attuale è dovuto a diverse ricostruzioni: prima Azzone Visconti, dopo il 1329, poi Camillo Boito, nel 1861-65. Quest'ultimo la liberò dalle case che vi si erano sovrapposte, aprì nelle torri due passaggi ad arco acuto e sovrappose in alto merlature guelfe che evocano i caratteri di una città del Medioevo. Questa fu una tra le prime ricostruzioni di monumenti antichi che segnarono il paesaggio della Milano ottocentesca e di inizi '900. • D'estate la Porta Ticinese Medievale diventa un punto di ritrovo tra i giovani studenti milanesi e teatro di numerose iniziative cittadine. Nel sec. XIV fu adornata sulla fronte esterna da Giovanni di Balduccio con un gruppo statuario che rappresenta i santi protettori: Sant'Ambrogio, fra i santi Lorenzo, Eustorgio e Pietro Martire, offre alla Vergine un modello della Città.
