La "Grotta dei Briganti" si trova all'interno della "Riserva Naturale Orientata Cavagrande del Cassibile", quest'ultima una delle tante meraviglie presenti in Sicilia. Cava Grande del Cassibile è costituita da una fenditura del tavolato calcareo ibleo dove scorre l'antico Kakyparis, oggi conosciuto con il nome di Cassibile, che ha scavato valli fluviali dall'aspetto di veri e propri canyon ed eroso le rocce formando i cosiddetti “marmittoni”, così chiamati per la loro particolare forma. Per l'esattezza lo spettacolare canyon di Cava Grande del Cassibile è una gola profonda fino a 300 mt e lunga 10 Km nel territorio di Avola, Siracusa e Noto. Le pareti del canyon sono piene di grotte, catacombe e plessi abitativi scavati all'interno della roccia. In una di queste pareti si trova la "Grotta dei Briganti" o della "Conceria" (in dialetto Cunziria) accessibile da un pericolosissimo sentiero a strapiombo nella cava. In realtà non si tratta di una singola grotta come potrebbe sembrare dal nome, bensì all'interno dell'anfratto (che sembra appunto una grande grotta) sono state scavate decine di piccole grotte. Nei secoli questo complesso: realizzato dai siculi, abitato dai bizantini e dagli arabi che vi realizzarono la conceria delle pelli (da qui il nome Cunziria), fino all'ottocento quando i briganti la utilizzarono come rifugio (da cui il nome "grotta dei briganti). #panorami #sicilia #longexposures #cieli #acqua #mare #scogliera #fiumi
