L'imponente Ponte XXV Aprile, spesso paragonato al Golden Gate Bridge di San Francisco, collega Lisbona alla città di Almada, che si trova sulla sponda opposta del fiume Tago. Inaugurato nel 1966, è lungo quasi 2 km - solo la campata principale raggiunge il chilometro e 12 metri - e ha fondamenta ancorate nella roccia basaltica a 80 metri sotto il letto del fiume.
