Nell'antico Egitto lo scarabeo era simbolo della resurrezione. Gli egizi credevano infatti che lo scarabeo della specie “stercorario” potesse rigenerarsi dalla palla di sterco che l'insetto fa rotolare davanti a sé. Inoltre, la palla veniva collegata con il disco solare che “rinasce” dopo la notte: il nome egizio dell'insetto, kheperer, è simile a quello del dio Khepri, il Sole, che sorge generato dalla Terra. Ampia diffusione. Gli amuleti a forma di scarabeo venivano posti sulle mummie (“scarabei del cuore”, sulla cui faccia inferiore venivano scritte preghiere e formule augurali) per simboleggiare la rinascita del defunto, ma venivano anche indossati come monili. L'uso dello scarabeo si allargò poi tra fenici, cartaginesi, greci, etruschi e, tra i primi cristiani, ancora come simbolo della resurrezione. Commenti, consigli e critiche sempre super graditi.
