Il santuario della Madonna della Corona, è situato a Spiazzi, sul confine fra Caprino Veronese e Ferrara di Monte Baldo in provincia di Verona, in un incavo scavato nel monte Baldo. Nel XV secolo era un romitaggio; la prima chiesa venne inaugurata nel 1530, dopo la visita del vescovo Gian Matteo Giberti. Divenne santuario nel 1625, quando i cavalieri di Malta fecero riedificare la chiesa, che venne poi completata nel 1680. All'inizio il santuario era noto col nome di "Santa Maria di Montebaldo". Nel 1898 si decise di ampliarla di circa due metri verso il piazzale antistante; fu così che nel 1899 fu rifatta la facciata in stile gotico e decorata con marmi di Sant'Ambrogio. Nel 1928 furono fatti alcuni ritocchi all'altare maggiore nella nicchia della Madonna. Nell'Anno Santo 1975 iniziarono dei lavori per la ristrutturazione della chiesa, fu scavato nella roccia per ampliarla: da 220 m2 si passò ai 600 m2, ora è lunga 30 m e larga 20 m e la sua cupola è alta 18 m. Le sei Campane alla veronese, in tonalità di Si maggiore, sono state fuse nel 1884. Il santuario fu consacrato il 4 giugno 1978, il completamento della ristrutturazione venne fatto in onore della visita del papa Giovanni Paolo II il 17 aprile 1988 (nel luglio del 1982 lo stesso papa aveva elevato il santuario alla dignità di basilica minore). Mentre una volta vi si accedeva solamente attraverso una salita di gradini dal paese di Brentino in Vallagarina, oggi è raggiungibile anche attraverso una strada asfaltata dopo il paese di Spiazzi, che termina in una galleria scavata nella roccia nel 1922, dove è esposto il dipinto della Madonna. Questa strada è percorribile solo a piedi, e lungo il tragitto ci sono le quattordici stazioni della Via Crucis in statue bronzee, e viene riprodotto il sepolcro dove venne messo Gesù dopo la sua morte.
