Firenze, Lungarno Guicciardini ... gennaio 2018 ... Giovanni Spadolini, fiorentino doc e fine esteta, ha più volte esaltato nei suoi scritti la bellezza del ponte di Santa Trinita, definendolo tra i più eleganti in assoluto dell'intero continente. Fama meritata per uno tra i più antichi ponti fiorentini, dalla storia ricca e tribolata: il primo progetto, in legno, e finanziato dalla potente famiglia dei Frescobaldi, è datato 1252 ma dopo solo sette anni crollò sotto il peso della folla che assisteva ad uno spettacolo in Arno; nuove edificazioni e nuove distruzioni per le rovinose piene del fiume, fino al 1557 quando Cosimo I ordinò la costruzione della struttura odierna, realizzata tra il 1567 ed il 1571 ad opera dell'Ammannati su disegno di Michelangelo. Il 4 agosto del 1944 le mine tedesche fecero brillare buona parte dei ponti fiorentini e Santa Trinita non fu risparmiato: terminato il conflitto l'antiquario Luigi Bellini diede vita al comitato "Com'era e dov'era" per la sua ricostruzione, utilizzando le bozze di pietraforte finite nel fiume.
