I do not know of the 'Orton effect' - but there again, I do not use any "effects" in editing and processing - why mess with nature at nature's best?

What you say is absolutely true, and in fact the picture is beautiful even so. Sometimes one can experiment with new techniques also out of curiosity, not to "mess" only. The Orton effect makes certain types of photos (like this one for example) with a "fairytale" effect. Nothing too heavy, only nuanced and delicate traits ....
But then again: I love it as it is ;-)
