Ripreso insieme alla Ara gialloblu - Ara Ararauna (i due in basso a sinistra) - Reserva Barba Azul - Il Barba Azul o Ara o Paraba o Pappagallo o, scientificamente, Ara glaucogularis è molto simile all'Ara azzurro-gialla relativamente comune. Ne differisce per collo e corona sulla testa azzurri invece che nero il primo e verde la seconda in quella comune. Sono differenti anche la forma delle ali, il modo di volare e soprattutto il grido che è la cosa con cui si riesce a distinguere anche da lontano. Esiste ormai in pochi esemplari, solo in Bolivia e solo in un paio di siti in cui trova condizioni favorevoli, come questo in cui mi trovo. L'associazione, oltre a gestire la riserva, si occupa di campagne informative in ambito locale. Nelle cerimonie vengono da sempre usati dei copricapi decorati con penne di paraba. Alla gente del posto si sta insegnando a distinguere il Barba Azul e soprattutto ad utilizzare penne artificiali. Non mancano i problemi.
