Una notte incredibile, se ci ripenso. Stavo facendo il tramonto alla Seljalandfoss bello tranquillo, quando un mio amico che in quel momento era nella parte est dell'isola mi scrive dicendomi di controllare le previsioni per la notte nella mia zona, che era prevista una tempesta geomagnetica di grado 2 (ovvero aurora di livello Kp6); inizio a far qualche ricerca appena rientro in macchina e le mani ricominciano a tornare in funzione (lo spray delle cascate ed il vento ghiaccio sono una combo che non raccomando a nessuno!) e vedo che effettivamente le previsioni per l'aurora non potevano esser migliori! Mi sposto alla Skogafoss, dove aspetto il calare della notte e l'aurora non si fa aspettare: era ancora l'ora blu e l'ultime luci del giorno si vedevano chiaramente all'orizzonte, ma l'aurora era già in piena attività in cielo! Preso dal panico, appena ho fatto qualche scatto da diversi punti di ripresa decido di spostarmi ancora più a sud (inoltre, non ero l'unico che si era informato: c'erano orde di turisti sotto la cascata!) dove potevo sbizzarrirmi di più sulle coste di Vik. In fretta e furia arrivo al parcheggio di Dyrholaey, dove non potevo di certo non provare uno scatto: ne ho diversi da questo punto qui (poi vi mostrerò anche gli altri!) in quanto è un posto a me molto caro. Dopo aver fatto qualche scatto decido di tornare alla macchina per spostarmi un pochino e un gruppo di ragazzi portoghesi mi chiedono se sono un “pro photographer”: sul momento non sapevo se mi volevano prender in giro o cosa, comunque sia ovviamente rispondo di no, che ero solo un appassionato.. In realtà alla fine volevano solo una foto sotto l'aurora ed ero l'unico con una reflex che passava nei dintorni; li ho fatti star fermi immobili per 15 secondi, ma alla fine erano supersoddisfatti e alcuni addirittura continuavano a ripetermi “you made my holiday!!”. La foto in realtà non era un granché, l'aurora era sbiadita a causa del lungo tempo di esposizione e perché si vedessero le loro facce ho dovuto usare ISO improponibili.. Ma erano contenti, ed io di conseguenza! E' bello vedere come ogni tanto possiamo renderci utili con poco!
