Il monte Cimone, Tonezza del Cimone, fu teatro durante il Primo Conflitto Mondiale di disputa tra il Regio esercito italiano e l'esercito Austroungarico, in quanto finestra verso la pianura veneta. Per poter conquistare la vetta, presidiata dai soldati italiani, il comando A.U. ordinò la preparazione di una potente mina e far saltare quindi la cima e i suoi occupanti. La mattina del 23 settembre 1916 gli Austroungarici fecero esplodere una gigantesca mina che cambiò definitivamente il profilo del monte Cimone e seppellì il presidio italiano li appostato a difesa dei sacri confini della Patria. Si ritiene che non fu possibile recuperare tutti i soldati sepolti, che quindi ancor oggi riposano sotto l'Ossario eretto a perenne ricordo di questo tragico evento e dell'atrocità di tutte le guerre. #Grande guerra
