Palazzo Vecchio è la sede del comune della città di Firenze, la costruzione iniziò nel 1299 e nel XIX secolo fu anche sede del parlamento del regno d'Italia. La Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, conosciuta anche come Duomo di Firenze, è uno dei simboli della città, nonchè terza cattedrale al mondo per grandezza. la costruzione iniziò nel 1296 e terminò solo nel 1436 dal punto di vista strutturale. La celebre cupola del Brunelleschi costituisce la copertura della crociera del Duomo, rimane tuttora la più grande cupola in muratura mai costruita. Il campanile, alto 85 metri, vide iniziare la sua edificazione quando Giotto divenne capomastro del cantiere, nel 1334, la posizione è molto particolare in quanto allineato con la facciata e separato dal resto della struttura.
