.....for Armistice Day. Remembering....... This photo was taken six years ago and the appearance of the poppies in the field was an unexpected occurrence which drew people from miles around. A real beauty and you have that plane perfectly positioned too! It does look rather colourful on this so-awful dull day! No photos taken by me today, either! (I'd be interested to see which lens you used back then?)

Thanks, Tim! That field of poppies was truly spectacular. I went on two days with very different weather conditions - it looked great against dark grey skies, too! It was close to Compton Abbas airfield, so a few light aircraft flew by - I just had to pick my moment carefully! It was probably taken with my 18-200 zoom but I can't be absolutely sure.

I spent much of the day driving, so no chance for photos.

Of course you were (driving), Ann. I had email contact with David M just before he sets out for LPH - he's getting to the area early and shooting before Sunday. So, do you still have the 18-200mm or was it traded in for the 18-300mm? Mind you, was the Nikon 18-200mm even around six years ago??

I'm spending a few days in Yorkshire before I complete the final leg of the journey. I should get some photo opportunities tomorrow at least! I do still have the 18-200 mm but it's temperamental since I knocked it against a fence post. I did look into getting it repaired but the potential cost put me off. It's useful as a back up, or when one of my sons wish to borrow the old D60. You could be right about it not being around six years ago, in which case, I really can't remember!

I know from Blipfoto (and from TV, such as All Creatures... and Last of the... that Yorkshire is a very beautiful place so I look forward to what you post from there. (Fenceposts are such a danger in the countryside, they should all be padded and have big red and yellow warnings on them!)

What lens did you use before the 18-200mm?

I had a kit lens and a zoom - could it have been 55-200 mm?

Thanks very much, Nikcola!

Yep, likely, an 18-55mm and 55-200mm were/are very common starter kits. This looks slightly wideangle, so that'd be the 18-55mm.

Incredible this flood of poppies! And the plane adds quality to the composition.
