Orthetrum albistylum (Sélys-Longchamps, 1848) Dimensioni: lunghezza: 45-50 mm, apertura alare 65-75 mm. Descrizione della specie: libellulide di colore bruno e giallo con addome, nel maschio maturo, ricoperto da pruinosità azzurra. Questa specie è inconfondibile: sia i maschi che le femmine presentano appendici terminali dorsalmente biancastre (le femmine anche il 10° segmento addominale) e l'addome dorsalmente celeste, in alcuni punti molto pallido. E' l'unico Orthetrum con pterostigma nero insieme a Orthetrum cancellatum. Si distingue da quest'ultimo per i cerchi bianchi (da qui il nome alla specie) e l'addome più sottile. L'addome è percorso longitudinalmente da due bande nere e, come detto, nel maschio, è ricoperto da pruinosità azzurra che tende a divenire più chiara in età avanzata mentre gli ultimi segmenti addominali sono neri con cerci bianchi. La femmina, oltre alle appendici anali, presenta anche l'ultimo segmento addominale bianco. Il torace, sui due lati, ha due bande chiare. Una banda chiara lo attraversa anche dorsalmente tra le ali. Vola dalla fine di maggio ad ottobre ed è più abbondante in luglio e agosto. Le larve si sviluppano sia nelle raccolte d'acqua ferma che in ambienti con lenta corrente, in lanche, cave, risorgive, canali e fiumi, specialmente se con ricca vegetazione, in aree di pianura o di bassa collina. È una delle specie più diffuse nelle risaie. Distribuzione e habitat: presente nel nord Italia in diversi ambienti con acqua sia corrente che stagnante. Molto comune nelle risaie.
