Nome scientifico: Coenonympha pamphilus ( Linnaeus 1758 ) Dimensioni: Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 14-18 Descrizione della specie: piccolo lepidottero dalle ali color giallo-camoscio brillante con bordature grigie marginali. Le ali anteriori presentano sopra un piccolo ocello cieco apicale, che inferiormente si ripete con pupilla e cerchiato di giallo. Le parti inferiori sono fulve anteriormente e con una linea postdiscale marcata; posteriormente, evidenziano marezzature chiare e fascia postdiscale biancastra. Sessi simili; aspetto inconfondibile per i colori delle ali e la disposizione degli ocelli. Maschio: colore arancio pallido con ampio marginale grigio nerastro. Macchia apicale rotonda nerastra nelle ali anteriori. Femmina: simile al maschio ma più grande e di colorazione generalmente più chiara Rovescio: ali anteriori di colore arancio chiaro con bordo marginale da grigio a bruno. Presente una macchia apicale ocellate nera, pupillata di bianco e contornata di giallastro. Posteriori grigie o brune con spazi postdiscali chiari di estensione variabile Bruco: svernante, ha tegumento verde su cui spicca una linea medio-dorsale verde scura e una banda biancastra a livello degli stigmi, vive nell'erba, le larve della generazione di maggio/giugno possono maturare in estate, ma qualcuna iberna e completa l'accrescimento in primavera. Ibernano tutti invece i bruchi della generazione tardo-estiva. Piante nutrici: Festuca pratensis, Poa annua, Poa nemoralis, Cynosurus cristatus, Nardus stricta, brachipodium sp Distribuzione e habitat: l'areale abbraccia l'Europa, il Nordafrica e l'Asia. Si trova in tutta l'Italia. vola per tutta l'estate nei prati e nella brughiera, può arrivare fino a 2100 metri s.l.m. Periodo di attività: due generazioni annuali con sfarfallamento degli adulti in aprile-maggio e luglio agosto con una terza parziale in ottobre.
