There are more than 2400 large wolf spider species in the world, which have distinctly arranged eyes, are gray, and often big and powerful, and able to hide themselves. Their sight is excellent, and this gives them the ability for nocturnal hunting. They are conspicuous in the night because of the brilliance of their eyes. This species is nocturnal and is observed in the dried up prairies and mountainous regions. During the day, this species rests under the stones or in underground tunnels it digs, and comes out for hunting in the night. It is very sensitive to the vibrations of the earth, and finds the preys with the extraordinary sight it has, and follows and hunts them. The depth of the tunnel dug by the large wolf spider depends upon the size of this insect and is in the 25-35 cm range, and is nearly vertical. This excellent hunter is able to run on the surface of the ground and water that one cannot follow it, and no prey can escape from it. The female type lays a few dozen eggs, spins a silk pouch for its eggs, and carries this pouch until its eggs are hatched. Then, it carries the babies until they become independent. Usually, the male one, which is 17-18 mm long, stays alive for one year, but the female one, which is 28-29 mm long, lives for some years.
