Chiesa di Mattia a Buda (Budapest H) Sulla collina di Buda, proprio davanti al Bastione dei pescatori, spicca la graziosa chiesa di Mattia costruita nel XIII secolo per volere del re Bèla IV e conosciuta come “chiesa di Nostra Signora“. E’ uno degli edifici più antichi di Budapest con alle spalle ben 700 anni di storia.La chiesa fu usata per secoli come luogo d’incoronazione dei re ungheresi, per oltre 150 anni venne trasformata in una moschea durante l’occupazione dei turchi ottomani (1541-1686) e poi fu lasciata in decadenza per secoli. Un tempo di proprietà di francescani e gesuiti, oggi è una fiorente chiesa cattolica molto attiva e accoglie migliaia di turisti ogni anno.Prese il nome di “chiesa di Mattia” solo in seguito, in onore di re Mattia Corvino che la fece ricostruire alla fine del 1400. Questo luogo sacro cambiò aspetto più volte nei secoli, venne rimaneggiata e modificata, fino a raggiungere il suo aspetto attuale grazie all’imperatore d’Austria Francesco Giuseppe I che la fece ristrutturare un’ultima volta nel 1896.
