Dedicata a Santa Maria Assunta, la cattedrale di Cremona viene edificata agli inizi del XII secolo e rappresenta, dal punto di vista artistico, uno dei principali e più insigni esempi di architettura religiosa del Nord Italia. Domina la piazza del Comune, fulcro e cuore dell'antica città medioevale. Si trova nel punto più alto della città formando con il Torrazzo e il Battistero il polo della vita religiosa. Affianca il duomo la torre campanaria comunemente chiamata Torrazzo. Alta oltre 112 metri è frutto della sovrapposizione di due strutture diverse. La prima, edificata probabilmente nel 1267, è una torre romanica con merlatura guelfa. La seconda è costituita da due tamburi ottagonali (ghirlanda) collocati alla sommità della torre. Si ipotizza che la costruzione sia stata terminata nel 1305. La palla e la croce poste alla sommità della cupola risalgono al XVII secolo. Suggestiva è la salita del Torrazzo dalla cui sommità si gode uno stupendo panorama della città e del fiume Po. La cella campanaria racchiude 7 campane fuse nel 1744. Ognuna è dedicata ad un santo, compreso il protettore della città, S. Omobono. I loro suoni formano un concerto in la bemolle. L'orologio astronomico del campanile viene installato nel 1583 da Francesco Divizioli in sostituzione di uno più antico e a seguito della Riforma Gregoriana del calendario. Il meccanismo perfettamente funzionante è quello originale, mentre il quadrante è stato più volte ridipinto. La versione attuale risale al 1970. L'orologio è in grado di indicare il moto degli astri, le fasi lunari e il moto del sole. (Tratto da www.cattedraledicremona.it) Sigma 17-50 f.2.8 a 17 mm. So che la distorsione prospettica è evidente ma l'angolazione mi sembra lo stesso suggestiva.
