La cattedrale di San Donato in Pinerolo (To) Sorge nel medesimo luogo di una chiesa più antica, costruita nel X secolo A partire dalla fine del XIV secolo, la chiesa venne interamente ricostruita e, nell'ambito di questo intervento, nel 1425, venne edificato il campanile, mai portato a compimento, che nel medioevo svolse la funzione di torre civica. Fu terminata nel 1508. Nel 1748, papa Benedetto XIV eresse la diocesi di Pinerolo e la chiesa di san Donato fu elevata a cattedrale. Tra il 1766 e il 1778 la cattedrale fu oggetto di un intervento di restauro in stile barocco; in questa occasione, fra le altre cose, furono realizzati l'altare maggiore e la pavimentazione interna. Da 1855, fu restaurata con lo scopo di esser riportata alle sue forme gotiche originarie attraverso l'eliminazione delle aggiunte barocche, delle quali fu mantenuto soltanto l'altare maggiore. Nel 1887 vennero dipinti da Alessandro Vacca e Giuseppe Rollini gli affreschi che adornano l'interno della chiesa e, dagli stessi, furono disegnati i progetti per le vetrate. La facciata della cattedrale di san Donato è stata interamente costruita dopo il 1808, quando, in seguito di un terremoto, la precedente venne completamente distrutta. L'interno della cattedrale è a tre navate di cinque campate ciascuna e coperte con volta a crociera. Le volte delle navate e i pilastri che le separano sono interamente affrescate. A Pinerolo mancavo da decenni, ero stato lì da bambino per qualche settimana. Non so nemmeno se in questa bellissima chiesa ci sia mai entrato. So però che ci sono stato dentro insieme ad una bella persona, un grande amico su Juza, Roberto Pitt. Scatto con cavalletto. Fusione di 5 scatti in HDR per recuperare le luci e le ombre. Era il Giovedì Santo, quindi era impossibile di trovare la chiesa completamente vuota. Ed è bene così :-) Per le linee cadenti ho dovuto adottare un compromesso, ma sembra che non dispiace.
