Ferrara una città a colori. Cenni storici: Feudo Papale 988. Contesa tra guelfi e ghibellini, entrò con i Guelfi nella Lega lombarda. Alberto V ottenne la bolla di fondazione dell'università nel 1391. Nel 15° sec. la città divenne centro di risonanza europea della cultura rinascimentale. Occupata dai francesi nel 1796, Ferrara fece parte della Repubblica Cispadana e di quella Cisalpina (1797-99); dal 1799-1801 fu in potere degli austriaci e poi capoluogo del dipartimento del Basso Po nel regno d'Italia fino al 1814. con il plebiscito del 1860 fu riunita al regno d'Italia.
