Pentedattilo -the City of ghosts-la citta dei fantasmi, citta completamente evacuata e la prima citta fantasma italiana... In sintesi: Il nobile Bernardino Abenavoli di Montebello, furiosamente innamorato della Marchesina Antonietta Alberti, sorella di Lorenzo signore di Pentidattilo, dopo aver saputo del fidanzamento di lei col figlio del Viceré di Spagna, perde il lume della ragione. Organizza una squadra di Bravacci, compra la complicità del servitore Giuseppe Scrufari che, la notte del 16 Aprile 1686, apre le porte alla masnada. Ne segue una strage terribile: Lorenzo pugnalato nel letto, il fratellino di 9 anni sbattuto contro le rocce, altre 16 persone uccise brutalmente. Bernardino rapisce Antonietta e, qualche giorno dopo la sposa, ma deve fuggire dalla squadra armata inviata da Reggio. I componenti la spedizione vengono tutti arrestati e decapitati, il matrimonio reso nullo. Le teste degli assassini restano a lungo esposte sui merli del castello. Bernardino non tornerà mai più e morirà in combattimento. La notte a volte ancora risuonano le urla straziate di Lorenzo e la roccia si fa rossa di sangue. Gli ululati del vento, i rumori delle case abbandonate, i fruscii…. ma anche il panorama spettacolare, la quiete, l'atmosfera medievale. Se venite giù avvertitemi che vi farò da cicerone: nel paese vecchio si sale sino alle divelte abitazioni degli Alberti, attraversando case, passando sotto portici ed archi. Naturalmente, per gustarsi la gita, è obbligatorio farlo di notte, magari con la luna piena. Vi assicuro una esperienza molto suggestiva. Che, spesso, diventa anche romanticissima. Con la luna che si muove nel cielo, la rocca muta forma, assumendo via via aspetti diversi secondo la lunghezza delle ombre. Ciascuno ci vede quello che gli pare. Attenzione, controindicazione: la leggenda è oscura e malevola, fantasmi, demoni, sangue. Ma, nella realtà, ho conosciuto numerosissime coppie il cui amore è nato, o si è definito, proprio nelle escursioni a Pentidattilo. Molti sono ancora sposati. Me compreso.
