La Festa dei Banderesi è una rievocazione storico-folcloristica che trae origine da un fatto d'arme, accaduto intorno al 1300 a Bucchianico, un piacevole paesino in prov. di Chieti quando la piccola cittadina era stata minacciata dalla vicina città di Teate, l'attuale Chieti. Nell'impellenza dell'attacco, la popolazione rurale fuggì dentro le mura trasportando le proprie vettovaglie, raccolte in una frettolosa cernita, in carri trainati da buoi, mentre le donne portavano sul capo canestri ricolmi d'ogni cosa. Tutti fatti a mano e rigorosamente in carta, i fiori che adornano i cesti portati sulla testa dalle donne di Bucchianico (le pacchianelle appunto) sono opere d'arte fabbricate dalle stesse prima della festa
