Subjects : A range of mountains that reach out for miles and miles, there are some tough walks and even tougher. Make sure you travel light or can carry kit and food, drinks as well as water proofs. The most popular of walks set off from the Car Park and has a rocky path, these rocks are worn and when wet can be slippery. There are a lot of good photo opportunities along the lower but steep paths. Further up, the fields open up and you can see the impressive mountain that your about to climb.

Recommended equipment : What ever equipment you have, hiking boots and rain tops a must as the weather changes, like most mountains. It can be a long tough walk so id take food and water, taking rubbish away and not leaving it behind.

Best months : Any times of the year, winter can be dramatic, especially after good snow. Good times are mornings and evenings.

How to get there : There are car parks and the car park nr the Mourne for Slieve Dionnard do get busy, arrive early. Newcastle is the nearest town for Slieve Donnard.

Visits : Although it is free and the car parks are free, further up the road is Tolleymore Forest, a beautiful natural park. A fee is charged for parking and a cafe is being built. The proceeds go back into looking after the park. Camping and caravans are most welcome here.

Notes : The Mourne Mountains range for miles,
