Subjects : Novo Mesto is the administrative center of Dolenjska. It lies in the middle of a hilly landscape in a bend of the Krka River at an altitude of 202 m (45°48′13″N 15°10′31″E). The city perimeter consists of Gorjanci to the southeast, Ljuben to the southwest (546 m), the outcrops of Kočevski Rog to the west, and the wine-growing Trška gora to the north (428 m).The city is home to the University of Novo Mesto and the University and Research Center, the Rudolfovo Institute, one of the oldest high schools in Slovenia, a school center with the largest higher vocational school in Slovenia, the Dolenjska Museum with the Jakčev dom gallery, the Miran Jarc Library, the Janez Trdina Cultural Center with the Kocka gallery, the Simulaker Gallery, and the youngest Slovenian professional theater, the Anton Podbevšek Theater.We can see,the old town centre, which is circular in shape with a radius of about 250 m, stands on a rocky limestone pier. It is washed by the slow grey-green Krka in three successive river bends. There are three piers between them. The town stands on the most prominent middle pier, while the other two are overgrown with forest; in the west Portoval(d), in the east Ragov log.
