This month I was lucky enough to shoot some little owls & bee eaters beside one of my friends and this provide me an opportunity to compare his lens "Sigma 150-600 HSM OS DG Sport" with mine (Canon 600mm F4 L USM IS II ) in term of image quality.

you can see it here:

I hope it be useful

I must emphasize that it is not really a true comparison, in fact I intended to show how good the Sigma is against a benchmark lens and near ideal conditions. And I must say that it is definitely good considering that my friend has used higher ISOs in all images that is an advantage for Canon in this case.

The Sigma looks much less quality, but as you said, the settings are different. the sigma shots are using much faster shutter speed than the canon in most shots with similarly higher iso

The sigma looks inferior,.. But the canon is multiple times expensive, and it is less flexible being prime. Image quality upto an enlargement of 12 inches x 18 inches will not be much different. The real problem with sigma is the slow aperture. Considering price of Sigma, it should better be compared with Canon 100-400 IS2, where I think It shines.

There's a lot of difference between the two lenses. The Canon clearly has better contrast, sharpness and a bit more reach. I think the Sigma looks closer to a 560mm compared to the Canon 600mm. That said...the Canon is eye wateringly more expensive. So only you can personally decide which lens is best for you. I stepped side ways and use a 400mm f2.8 LIS with extenders.
