Pros: Aesthetics, battery, screen, speed
Cons: Fragility, proximity sensor, camera, buttons
Opinion: Positives:-A unique mobile phone that amazes the design (it happens almost daily that someone asks me what it is). Designed by Philippe Starck, with square and thin ceramic body with small details in 18K gold (with a certificate). -Size screen perfect for a phablet (6.4 "). It has been designed to be the same size as the "classic" iPhone, but practically with an extra inch of screen, because of the extremely small frames. The thumbs are "real", because the screen is not stretched as the absurd today's fashion imposes (it would correspond to about 7 inches of a 19-20:9 screen). Moreover it lacks the unsightly nots/notch, and does not have the unnecessary edges of the screen round, so fashionable now. -The 4400 mAh battery is huge, but after two years it shows signs of failure and no longer does two days as when purchased (also due to the continuous software updates, more and more demanding). The quick recharge is very effective, and in the standard Qualcomm Quickcharge 3. -The mobile phone to date shows no signs of slowing of any kind (at that time 6 Gb of RAM and 256 of memory were many, moreover to little less than €400). The latest stable update is at Android 8 with MIUI 10. -To date glass and ceramics have no signs of wear or scratches (except for a fall damage). Negatives:-The proximity sensor has never worked well from the start, despite continuous software updates. Of course, it is not a classic sensor (the reduced frames do not allow its presence), but an ultrasonic sensor under the screen. It gives a little bit of trouble in the phone call phase, and you find yourself opening random apps. It is perhaps the only real problem of this phone, very hardy for its time. -The ceramic allows to make the surface eternal to scratches, but it is also fragile in case of falls. The phone will have fallen 3-4 times in its life, but in one of these a piece of pottery is blown away by one of the corners. -The power button, while underutilized (the phone comes on with the very fast fingerprint sensor, and goes off with a double tap), now has almost stopped working (I do not know what will happen if the phone should never turn off by itself). -The camera is pathetic, because the style has imposed that the phone was often 8 mm and without any relief. But then I have my Sony, so I have never done anything, except to scan documents with the appropriate apps, work that performs well. Conclusions: I would buy it again right away. To date no phone is approaching him in the slightest. Perhaps Huawei Mate 20 X approaching him, but the notch on the screen, the processor not Qualcomm, weight and thickness do not make it minimally comparable (however at a significantly higher price). Cute the future OnePlus 7 Pro, but the battery is smaller and the screen tighter and with curved edges. And then it would cost infinitely more. I follow on ebay auctions that sell it used... And that's all to say. Nothing to do with his successors, practically other telephones (much smaller as screen and battery, with asymmetric edges, etc.). |
