Pros: Lightness and size (when compared to sony gm), sharpness, magic blur, controls on the barrel

Cons: Slightly inaccurate in some situations but I caught some positive aspects

Opinion: I owned version 1.8 of sony and kept it parked in my backpack, dull optics and devoid of character in my opinion. Something was missing from my photography and when I took this sigma the love for this focal length came back overbearing and I never disassembled it from my second body. In favorable conditions it is fast, precise and sharp, detaches the subjects beautifully and returns magical images, sometimes it goes into difficulty (especially in complex tracking) but I made it a strong point, because even in light blur it maintains a strong character and helps to make the images evocative. I also use it detached from the body to obtain particular and partial blurred effects on the same plane. I love him madly.

Pros: all... or almost.

Cons: Cap, but above all lampshhed.

Opinion: Wonderful lens, with sharpness, bokeh and top colors. I'm using it with Sony A7RIII and I'm just excited about the results. I had the 85 GM, which I especially liked for the character, less for the sharpness at TA. This Sigma looks a lot like him for the beautiful bokeh, but it is much superior in terms of resolution to TA and especially for the colors he knows how to return. Even the much-vituperated jpeg seem to come to life. Better even than the superb 135 GM! EXCELLENT AF and lack of optical defects, (which to be honest there are but are excellently correct via software with C1), complete the picture. The cons are almost irrelevant, but one I would like to stress, namely the monstrously great lampshed. Really overdone! I changed it with a universal screw from a few euros and the lens changed its appearance positively, returning that wonderful "little" jewel that it is. Another weed, which unfortunately applies to all 85 mm and I do not understand why, is the minimum distance of MaF. But the spectacular yield, compared to the price, I would say right, makes these small things take second place.

Pros: A lot

Cons: -

Opinion: Never had a good feeling with sigma I do not even know why, perhaps the colors, or perhaps the abnormal weight of the art that have always made me desist only at the thought of a possible purchase. I had tried something from the contemporary series but in my opinion it did not live up to my expectations. then this came out and finally the weights halved and I decided to try it last week in the store, well now yes, now we are... vote 10

Pros: Sharpness, autofocus speed, materials

Cons: That damn cap

Opinion: I would like to start by saying that they are novice, and before it is criticized, let me say that I prefer to spend a lot (if possible) on something of quality instead of less but having to put my hand over my wallet several times to buy similar items but of higher quality. Having said that, even with my rookie eyes I have to say that the quality and sharpness of the image is crazy, the distortions and vignetting are modified by car from the room or in any case easily modifiable in post production. The ring of the diaphragms, the quality of the materials the modifiable key, all the little things that make this lens great, ah I forgot the chromatic aberrations are practically absent. What I would have liked would have been the presence of a scale of distances, the one that would have been useful, but well we certainly do not die for it. But that cap, that damn cap, is definitely his weak spot. Of course it may seem like, but it is not above all for the price. Once inserted it does its duty, but the problem is to be able to insert it. It's not a quick thing to do... If you have the option I recommend the purchase.

Pros: Robust construction, small size, lightweight, 11 diaphragm slats, sharpness, contrast, aberrations absent, fast

Cons: front cap lens cover

Opinion: I've basically already said everything in the Pros, this lens beats on an equal footing with sony's equal Gmaster..... and with a thousand euros less. Smoky pasty and boke that look like footballs thanks to the 11 diaphragm slats, very functional and equipped with the programmable machine button. Null aberrations, crisp everywhere already at TA, excellent flare resistance, returns wonderful colors and contrast, lightning MAF. It's worth all its price. As someone has already said, Awkward Front Cap, comes off 8 times out of 10 before hooking well, an insult to such a lens

Pros: So many things.

Cons: Bearing distortion.

Opinion: Excellent construction. Tropicalization. Full barrel controls. Weight, size and cost well proportioned. Turning to the optical characteristics I would say that we enter the field where this optics impressed me the most. Very high sharpness from the whole opening and from edge to edge. This will certainly also be thanks to an excellently successful and centred specimen. No chromatic aberration at all openings. Excellent flare resistance, but I always use the lampshon and I almost never use filters. Consistent and uniform quality at all shooting distances. Where impressed me the most, however, was in the quality of the blurry. It really is a unique lens, at least for my experience. In the sense that it manages to offer that detachment of the planes and that softness that I seek without losing in saturation, in fullness of colors. It's a hard feeling for me to explain, but even with other optics I happened to get a very nice blurry. But always at the cost of a certain loss of color charge, fullness of tones. With this DN instead no, and I really like this feature. The only defect is a certain bearing distortion. Unusual for this focal length where it's easier to find it in a barrel, I think. However, it is not problematic in my opinion as it can be easily corrected automatically and visible only with certain mainly architectural subjects. Specific that I don't do video footage, so any features in that field are not able to evaluate them.

Pros: Sharpness, construction, colors, blurry, lightning autofocus

Cons: the lens profile in Adobe is still missing, images with little contrast in some light situations

Opinion: At just available on the Italian m-trading circuit. Comparing it to the samyang AF 85 f1.4 I can say that we are on another planet.... impeccable construction, solid lampshed, incredible optical performance. I don't know who's complaining about the cap... I've never lost it and I find it built better than some Sony. Returns faithful colors even if, in some cases, it returns images with little contrast (recoverable immediately in post). To achieve the compactness compromise they removed the elements to correct the distortion, it is not a problem --> in LR it is immediately remedied with a -9/-10 in manual lens correction. (waiting for the official lens profile in Camera Raw/Lr). Lightning-fast and precise autofocus, continuous AF performance comparable to the Sony FE 1.8. Embarrassing sharpness already from 1.4. Satisfied with my purchase, I really believe that this is the 85 best-buy for sony E system. I recommend it to everyone. IT'S GREAT!

Pros: Everything but the cap

Cons: Cap

Opinion: You can't make the perfect lens and have it with such a lens cap! It's like I'm buying a Ferrari and I find the Marangoni mounted! Closed the Cap speech, this Sigma is a work of art, at full opening is sharp, zero reflections, zero chromatic aberrations, velvety bokeh, focus that never misses a beat. Besides, it's really well built!! I don't think it's expensive for what it offers! If someone has friendships in Sigma, tell him to study the caps better, I swear sometimes I thought to leave the house without, so it always ends up on the ground!

Pros: Really efficient autofocus, old style diaphragms' diaphragms, great yield, reasonable footprint to be a Sigma

Cons: It's expensive.

Opinion: I went around the store yesterday. I really like the all-metal construction and the Eighties look. As the 45 2.8 has the metal lampshade, to be a Sigma is not the usual hyper-heavy stove tube. Excellent and uniform made even to the most open diaphragms, but with a medium canvas like this is obvious. But where I was most surprised is in the efficiency of the autofocus, which makes it suitable to follow moving subjects and therefore to sports photography despite the more argue that an 85 should be used mainly for portraiture. I think that Sigma has received a portion of criticism that the objectives should be more compact and transportable, so after 45 (a very particular view) here is this medium canvas that takes us back to an era when a fixed one did not necessarily have to be a stove pipe. Recommended, unfortunately it is absolutely not given away: a few hundred euros less would certainly have favored success.
