fujifilm_xf150-600wrFujifilm XF 150-600mm f/5.6-8 R LM OIS WR

Pros: TA sharpness, internal zoom, AF speed, lens pan and balance, arcaswiss foot, weight

Cons: Lack of stabilizer selector, distance scale selector makes little sense, blurry

Opinion: I've been using this lens for about a year on XH2-XH2s cameras. Purchased mostly to make up for the need to multiply the 100-400 and for the internal zoom, which in my opinion is very performing in the BIF. Starting with the construction, it is well made, soft aperture ring at the right point, large zoom ring, great weight distribution and balance. It's quite solid, but you don't get the same perception of solidity as the 200f2 which turns out to be more solid and sturdy. The weight is a significant plus, swinging 900mm equivalent with only 1.6kg is no small thing, especially for birdlife in flight which makes tracking and tracking operations easier. This, alas, requires you to have a closed aperture (F8) with consequent always high ISO, often over 1600-2000 even in broad daylight. The sharpness is already high at TA, there is no need to close further, and even with subjects at a distance (air and light conditions permitting) you take home excellent detail. The AF speed is high thanks to the linear motor, combined with XH2s the lock on to the subjects is quick, this is an excellent combination for BIF. The arcaswiss foot made is beautiful, it can be removed very comfortably and of adequate length also for use as a carrying handle. Coming to the cons, the lack of the stabilizer selector is annoying, it requires you to use a dedicated button on the machine for the function, or enter the menu, or even create custom C1-C7 memory banks with stabilization active to speed up. The distance selector of maf has a range that does not make sense on a lens of this type, considering that it has the minimum distance of maf at 2.5m, the 5m-infinity step is too long, it was ideal 10m-infinity precisely for birds in flight. The quality of the blur is excellent, creamy and pleasant, but I included it among the cons as the detachment of the subject from the background due to the F8 aperture is not always clear, it is more difficult to isolate the subject in many situations. In conclusion, it is a very interesting and well-made lens for nature photography, you have 900mm that can be used for different subjects but especially birdlife. Unfortunately it doesn't shine in brightness and if you shoot often at dawn and dusk you end up with ISO too high for my taste. If I want to buy a single telephoto for nature in the Fujifilm panorama, I think the 100-400 is more suitable for the role of all rounder, with the possibility of covering more situations, this 150-600 is more oriented towards the BIF. Fujifilm is still waiting for a fixed bright long telephoto to come up with.

fujifilm_200_f2ois_wrFujifilm XF 200mm f/2 R LM OIS WR

Pros: ultra-high image quality, sharpness, microcontrast, robustness and construction, tropicalization, brightness, TC compatibility, blurred

Cons: hood, tripod bracket

Opinion: An excellent lens, with an indisputable optical quality and a photographic yield with a lot of character. It winks at the sports photographer in the first place but also at those who do nature photography (field in which I use it), although it is not really long as a focal length, however it works well with multipliers (even with the TC 2X in addition to the 1.4x included in the purchase). With these it is like having 3 lenses in one with excellent quality (300, 420 and 600mm equiv.) The construction is solid and robust, does not fear rain and humidity situation, used in pouring rain in the mountains did not make a bend. It is rather heavy and stocky, but short and well maneuverable even in dynamic situations, the diaphragm ring is rubbed the right, soft instead that of the maf. Convenient fn buttons can be used for maf activation, maf lock and maf memory in combination with set button. Excellent stabilization, with TC2x installed I managed to get shots at 1/60 F4 freehand. The hood despite being aesthetically beautiful to look at and voluminous, is light but rather delicate, you have to be careful not to block the locking screw too tight, on the web I read about those who broke it and the replacement of the hood is anything but cheap, here you could do better. The tripod bracket is provided with standard ark swiss I would have preferred a little longer to use it also as a carrying handle but you can overcome it by adding a plate underneath. The sharpness is maximum already at F2 and is exceptional, with the TC1.4x with which it is supplied nothing is lost in terms of quality, with the TC2x instead you need to aperture from F4 up to F5 to have maximum sharpness, but at F4 it is good and usable. The price at which it is proposed is high but it is a professional lens and with a really important brightness, in the last two years it has been the subject of interesting cashback. Appreciated the semi-rigid and well-padded case with which the lens is supplied

fujifilm_100-400wrFujifilm XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR

Pros: Low weight and dimensions, solid construction, focal ranges, stabilization, optical quality, compatible with multipliers

Cons: Zoom fluidity, tripod collar, slight drop in sharpness to 400mm

Opinion: I have owned this lens since 2016, the year in which I moved permanently to Fuji, I use it for nature photography and some glimpses of landscape. Starting from the weight and bulk I consider it comfortable both for long walks in the mountains and for fixed stalking on a tripod, it does not take away too much space in the backpack and in the various mountain treks I never leave it at home. It is well built, solid and with an excellent grip on the aperture, zoom and maf rings, even if the zoom mechanism is not fluid, you need to give some force to extend it, this certainly due to the pronounced extension when you go to 400mm. It is a 150-600mm equivalent, focal range very useful in naturalistic both for narrow shots and set of animals, and why not also glimpses of landscape around 150mm. Sharp at TA even if at 400mm with distant subjects (above 25-30m) it seems to lose a thread of sharpness compared to other lenses of this kind, but nothing tragic. It holds up well to the TC 1.4X, maintaining the same excellent quality that you have at 400mm, making it a 140-560 F8 very useful on distant subjects. Too bad for the tripod collar which is small and without the swiss ark attachment, a little longer would have been useful for carrying by hand. With the new cameras Fuji (XH2s and XH2) has gained much more speed and precision in autofocus and at present it still remains the best lens for nature photography in the Fujifilm optical park.

fujifilm_16-80_f4wrFujifilm XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR

Pros: focal range, fixed F4 aperture, weight and dimensions, autofocus, balance

Cons: TA sharpness, lack of stabilizer selector

Opinion: I have been using this lens with satisfaction for several months, replacing the 18-135. First of all, the range of focal lengths combined with the fixed F4 aperture makes it very versatile for different genres, from landscape, reportage, street, portrait, travel. It is a perspective that I use very often especially in excursions and travel and in all those situations in which you want to do a little bit of everything. At the level of construction I find it very well done, light and balanced, the excursion of the barrel is not excessive and the zoom rings and apertures are well frictioned, that of the MAF is rather soft. The stabilizer is a strong point of this lens, you take home sharp shots with times of 1/15 to 80mm quietly. The focusing speed is excellent and quite precise, but it also depends on the camera body used. I find it a bit soft at TA, it definitely improves by closing at F5.6 up to F11, then it starts to drop sharpness again, a normal feature for this type of zoom lens. A pity also the absence of the stabilization selector on the lens, you need to access the menu or assign the function to a button on the camera. In conclusion, I think it is the best compromise at Fuji in the category of all-round zooms, if you enter the Fuji world I think it is the first lens to buy to do a little bit of everything.
