canon_17-40Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0 L USM

Pros: IQ, weight, construction, weather sealing, solid and compact, Sharpness on the whole trip, f4 constant. Flare resistance. Usm quickly and preciso.rnParfocale.

Cons: No one on aps-c. Cartoon and distorts on FF

Opinion: This is my second lens L series that could not miss my outfit. Next to the 24 105 allows me to take pictures with very large angles. I use it mainly for landscapes and group shots or outdoor music events. I decided to opt for the 17 40 for the type of photos I take. Although a 2.8's brother can always be comfortable, almost always use small apertures. I do not recommend to work in lowlight / nottruna, times when a tripod is highly recommended. In any case it is a decent all-rounder on aps-c (not comparable to the "lord of the handyman" canon 24 105) that I recommend to anyone who is looking to get rid of 18 55. Weight and dimensions allow long photo sessions without feeling fatica.rnSe you have patience and / or a limited budget, you can find it used at relatively low prices. For my 500 I've spent with the remaining warranty period of 22 months. I highly recommend the latest versions by UZ on.

canon_24-105Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM

Pros: Construction, stabilization, Tropicalization, Sharp, Blades rounded, AF, Robustness. Weight (is relative from person to person but I can say that after hours of walking with a magnifying glass in hand I do not feel fatigue, but in case there is always received by the IS)

Cons: On aps-c no. On ff cartoon and distorts. Low resistance to flare. The older lenses can suffer from wobbling, defect not yet found on the newer lenses.

Opinion: Fast and compact, with a constant f4 and stabilization, this lens is permanently glued to my camera body except for a few occasions when I use a 17 40. I am astounded by its perceived quality in color, in contrast to the speed and accuracy of fire. The stabilization of the use in very few cases because of my steady hand, sometimes I keep it off at 105, but when the light falls and photographer static objects, the IS allows me to shoot at 1/6 without feeling moved. The stabilizer is not essential but in those few cases can be very useful. I am not an admirer of the lenses stabilized but this won me over. The quality and sharpness is noticeable already at RT at all focal lengths. My behaves excellent between 24/28 and 70/105. Obviously being f4 sometimes you need a little boost in the 'Iso, and above all forget the dreamy bokeh typical of f2/2.5/2.8 although 105 is able to safely remove the subject from the background. From this advice to anyone who needs toa walkaround lens and do not have any particular need for lowlight and portrait. Possessing a 35mm/cinquantino and a 85mm you would not need anything else.
