samyang_8fisheye_f3-5iiSamyang 8mm f/3.5 UMC Fish-eye CS II

Pros: Sharpness, distortion, build quality

Cons: Flare, loss of sharpness at max. aperture

Opinion: Recently purchased, it immediately struck me for the sharpness found in the entire frame, including margins and qualitatively greater than many other more noble focal lengths. The excellent distortion for an APS-C sensor and the good quality of the materials, do the rest. So far, the only two problems encountered are; the ease with which you find yourself having to face the flares (but I think this is due to the amplitude of the angle of view) and the sharpness that drops drastically giving the idea of being perpetually out of focus when you set the aperture to the maximum aperture. This last problem can also be solved with the sole closure of a stop of the diaphragm itself. Rating 9

canon_efs18-55stmCanon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM

Pros: Lightness, softness of the image, stabilization.

Cons: *Inaccurate Af.

Opinion: As a first lens for those approaching the world of SLRs there is nothing to say, it discreetly does its job and offers more than good shots for the price with which it is sold. The stabilization and lightness play once again in his favor and personally I could add the softness of the image that I could no longer find with the 18-55 is-stm in production since 2013. Unfortunately also for this lens I must point out the defect of the autofocus that tends to blur a part of the frame while focusing endlessly. This problem appears accentuated as the aperture of the diaphragm is increased and is also found in the "new" 18-55 IS-STM and 10-18 IS-STM (see review).

canon_75-300_v3Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III

Pros: Lightness, focal range, sharpness*

Cons: Noisy and inaccurate Af, loss of sharpness at maximum focal length, blurring of a part of the frame with a fully open aperture.

Opinion: For the price at which it is proposed it must be said that with due care, you can pull out good shots despite the quality performance is not at the top. If on the one hand we find the wide focal range and the relative lightness of the lens itself, on the other there are as many weak points that affect its overall quality. Let's start once again with autofocus. It is definitely noisy and often inaccurate. It also tends to be slow and for the subjects I portray (aircraft landing or take-off) it is a significant problem. The sharpness is good if not very good (but this is a personal judgment) from the shortest focal length up to roughly 250/280 mm and then quickly lose quality once the maximum focal length of 300 mm has been reached. The other annoying flaw is the progressive blurring of a part of the frame with the aperture completely open despite having set the focus to infinity.

canon_efs_18-55is_v2Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II

Pros: Lightness, sharpness stabilization, focus ring (*with some defects)

Cons: *Manual dancer focus, distortion.

Opinion: Purchased urgently to replace the irreparably damaged 18-55 IS-STM, it gave me decent results with the great advantage of no longer finding myself having the problem of partly blurred framing (see reviews of 10-18 and 18-55 IS-STM). On the other hand, the imperfections that afflict this lens are not lacking and consist mainly in the evident distortion at the corners of the frame at any aperture of the aperture and the focus that if set in manual, should have a lever to block it since it is all too easy to go out of focus at the slightest sudden movement.

canon_efs10-18isCanon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM

Pros: Lightness, Sharpness, Stabilization, Silent Af.

Cons: Diaphragm, Inaccurate Af.

Opinion: For those who want to get original perspectives, this lens is for them. The distortion on the sides of the frame can be a defect, personally I find it a gimmick to pull out shots different from the usual. Also in this case, the lightness of the material, the stabilization and the sharpness (not excellent) play in favor of this lens while the aperture not really generous and the inaccuracy of the autofocus limit the overall quality. This last problem, already encountered in the 18-55 IS-STM forces me to use only and exclusively manual focus to avoid finding myself with a portion of the frame more or less out of focus regardless of the aperture of the aperture.

canon_efs18-55_f4_5-6stmCanon EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM

Pros: Stabilization, Lightness, Sharpness.

Cons: Inaccurate Af (part of the out-of-focus framing with autofocus).

Opinion: For the price with which it is proposed it is a lens that does its job, the sharpness is good but not excellent and the lightness of the material plays in its favor. However, it should be noted a defect that from personal experience I have found in other optics of the IS-STM range and that is the imperfection of the autofocus. Explained in other words, with the af I have often noticed that a portion of the frame tends to come out blurry while focusing endlessly. This game becomes more and more accentuated with increasing the aperture of the aperture until it involves half of the total frame. As mentioned earlier, I found the same problem in the previous version of the 18-55 F3.5 IS-STM and in the 10-18.

samyang_16_f2Samyang 16mm f/2.0 ED

Pros: Very sharp at intermediate apertures, Diaphragm excellent for night shots, Good blurred for macro.

Cons: Ring for focusing too wide, Distortions of light sources with fully open aperture.

Opinion: I bought this lens to pair with the Canon 100D and I must say that it exceeded my expectations. It gives shots of a sharpness that not even the Canon brand lenses have been able to offer me (I own the classic EF18-55 is-stm and EF10-18 Is-stm). The ability to open the aperture up to F/2 allowed me to bring out good if not distinct results in the shots portraying the Milky Way. The only two weak points I found are, the distortion of the point light sources (street lamps and cross-shaped stars) on the sides of the frame with the maximum aperture and the focus ring that in my opinion is too wide and therefore easy to move inadvertently while you are framing, so much so that more than once I had to hold the lens from the diaphragm ring to avoid altering the mass in focus.
