canon_speedlite_el1Canon Speedlite EL-1

Pros: Battery; accessoryability; minimum power reduction; tropicalization.

Cons: Cost and footprint

Opinion: Beautiful object! Attractive design and excellent materials. The coating has been designed for an excellent grip and is also aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Fast and powerful, it allows flawless operation in symbiosis with the older 600EX-RT and 580EX II. Flash definitely PRO! Its minimum power, although I have heard some say that it is useless, I must say that in some cases, as in the freezing of splashes, it turns out to be very comfortable. However, better to have it than not. What I didn't really like is the screen. I would have preferred a cleaner screen like the PROFOTO and the transition from TTL to MAN with a dedicated key, which would make it faster and more practical to use. Another con is the price; definitely a bit too high. Surely it will go down before long, but for now it requires a kidney to be able to have it.

canon_1dx_iiiCanon 1DX Mark III

Pros: Being a 1DX, therefore: robustness at the highest levels; ergonomics; AF; dynamic range; high iso; Dual SLR/Mirrorless...

Cons: Not detected.

Opinion: Having started with digital from 1D and arrived at 1DX mk III, passing through all the intermediates, including the 1DS Mk II and Mk III, today I divide the work between this monster of efficiency and the R3, but when I pick up the 1DX mk III and hear the sound of the burst, my senses enjoy infinite pleasure. The R3 is a lot of stuff, but the filing and the pleasure of shooting that gives me the last of Canon's flagship SLRs is unparalleled. All the improvements it presents compared to the mk II (and they are not few), repay the price difference I had to pay for the up grade. Concluding this mini review, I can safely say that this is the PERFECT camera for the way I work. Aware that there is no perfect camera, I have to say that this one is PERFECT for me!

canon_70-200_f4Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM

Pros: Lightweight and very transportable; optically not unlike the brother f. 2.8 MK II that I own and that 9 times out of ten I leave at home to take this with me; Super AF.

Cons: Don't have it

Opinion: There's little to say about this lens: it's almost always mounted on my cameras. I prefer it to the 2.8 that although excellent and stabilized, most of the time when I need this focal length, the 4 is able to do the exact same job. At the price in which they are used, it is unthinkable not to have it in the backpack.

canon_eos_r3Canon EOS R3

Pros: Advanced and modular M.a.F. system, adaptable to specific needs; ergonomics; tropicalization (but I already knew this); EVF; design; battery life; stabilizer; focus up to - 7.5 EV and so much more.

Cons: At the moment none, but I reserve a more accurate judgment for when I know her better.

Opinion: Purchased on 4-12-2021 and tested on the field with a wedding on a day impossible from a weather point of view. Excellent behavior, except for some of my cognitive deficiencies on the product just bought. I do not consider it infallible since I am convinced that there are no infallible cameras, but only excellent products that minimize (almost zero) the margins of error. This is one of them! For now I have used it almost exclusively with the 85 mm. f. 1.2 at maximum aperture (or almost) to obtain in wedding portraits that WOW effect that is so fashionable. (we have to survive and therefore we have to adapt "ob torto collo" to the momentary fashions). I also took some shots with the new (for me) RF 15-35 f. 2.8 and I must note that compared to the EF16-35 f.2.8 it is so much, but much better. You can see and appreciate a big difference due to the new draft and the new design. For now I would stop here, waiting to test it longer and in situations of great speed of action. Next March the riding competitions will start again and then I will really understand how the new R3 body behaves.

canon_300_f4isCanon EF 300mm f/4.0 L IS USM

Pros: Lightweight and compact (to be a 300 mm.); Very sharp since f. 4, but if you close just a stop it becomes a razor. Exceptional contrast; Mr Bocke; Af excellent; built-in lampshon.

Cons: Against??

Opinion: Just to mention the last use last weekend: I was in an equestrian field to resume a grand jump prize and took with me both 2.8 and 4. Starting with the most expensive 2.8, after an hour of freehand use, I had a very sore shoulder and arm. I decide to try the 4 (I start that despite the excellent light conditions, I decided to work at the maximum opening with both objectives, in order to blur the backgrounds and enhance the figures in the foreground. The bocke of the 4, although a less creamy thread, literally amazed me. I have made the decision that, if I do not have to have very poor light problems, I will only take the 4 with me from now on. Perfect optics. Sharpness, micro contrast and stunning bocke. You can see my gallery here with some photos of the event. Having bought it for only 600 euros used, but kept as new, if I compare it to the price of 2.8, I almost run away from crying. I will not sell the brightest f. 2.8 to keep me only this, but the temptation I confess I had it!

canon_1d3Canon 1D Mark III

Pros: Canon colors; price of used car (March 2021); M.a F; burst; infinite battery; the fact that it's a series 1.

Cons: In view of what we have in our hands, I see very few of them. I can't consider "cons," characteristics from 14 years ago. His still does it very well today.

Opinion: I worked on football fields and in serie A arenas and also in theaters for dance essays for years. It has always allowed me to perform PRO work at the highest levels. Then came the 1DX (I and II) that brought with them those improvements necessary to always be able to offer the top of the work even in those situations until then critical. Just two days ago I bought from RCE Padova a body with only 1000 shots and in showcase conditions. (When I say "showcase", I mean that in my opinion that body was purchased and NEVER extracted from the box). His price (only 340€) on the first one made me suspicious and made me ask the question of where the jam was. Then, being RCE that I know well and that I trust blindly, I decided to take it, if only to look at it and re-overshadow the good times of work on the sidelines with boisterous colleagues. I naturally tried the camera to check its status and was almost moved. FOR FET TA! I would still use it on the football pitch today; not really in a building. His last usable ISOs are the 1600, as long as he doesn't crop too much. But for portrait work in the studio; for architecture, as long as you have at least 14 mm; for a thousand other jobs where it is not necessary to push on the accelerator of sensitivity, this quality monster can still give immense satisfaction today!

canon_rf85_f1-2dsCanon RF 85mm f/1.2 L USM DS

Pros: Fast in M.a.F (considered the glass that must move); scary engraving since 1.2; blurry never seen before; elegant and essential design; very comfortable front ring; lampshed with convenient unlock button.

Cons: To the touch it returns the feeling of less robustness than its brother EF (Big One)

Opinion: Purchased taking advantage of the Cash back of 400 € at the end of November 2020. I would like to start by saying that having worked with both the Big One, the 105 Sigma Art, the 135 EF f. 2, the 100 EF f. 2 (and therefore of portrait objectss I have known), I must say that no one before had given me the satisfaction that this splendid optics is giving me. Much of the credit also goes to the R6 which with its eye tracking system, has not yet made me miss a shot with this lens. For me it is perfection and the only thing that I did not like for now (but then not so much), is the fact that, despite being abundantly bigger and heavier than the big brother EF, to the touch it returns a slight feeling of less robustness: but maybe it is just my feeling. Surely in fact it will be even more robust, but so much so! The front ring is really cool. You can assign it various functions and it is really useful (but this is present on all RF). What can I say? It costs quite a bit, but for those like me who work on it it is an essential tool. I'm sorry I had to give away the Big One to amortize the cost of this a little bit, but even having the Sigma 105 1.4 I couldn't do otherwise. For now I have only tried it with shots taken in the family, given the moment, but as soon as the working season resumes and I can try it by putting it under pressure, I will update the review with other impressions. for me it is from 9.9 just because to the touch I still have the memory of the Big One! Update to January 24, 2021: used as a lens by still life; better than the 100 macro Canon L! For those who have doubts, I recommend seeing among my galleries the one entitled Still Life. This lens is worth more than it costs. I'm sure I'll use it more than any I own.

nikon_f2Nikon F2

Pros: Designed for mature professionals (people trained in the street). The right completion of the NIKON F project. All the PROs you could want in the early 1970s.

Cons: Don't own it.

Opinion: Bought with many sacrifices in 1977, after i had worked for a year on a motorized with MD2, owned by the photographic studio in which I entered to be a shop boy, back in 1976. The only lens I had at the time was 105 mm. f. 2.5; Wonderful! The rest of the optical kit and the engine came later, when I opened my photo studio. I used it with great results for at least 20 years before they stole it from me. I never wanted to switch to F3 because, apart from the automatic exposure I hated at the time, everything else seemed to me to have gotten worse than my beloved F2. I'm not going to list all the technical solutions that made it the ONLY reflex in the world that could worthily replace hasselblads for the vast majority of professional applications. It was built to never stop! Who owned it, I'm sure he loved it like me. At the time I loved to say that he was more faithful than a woman; he never cheed! ;) In short: A MYTH that even today, in the right hands, would bring home, in many fields of application, excellent results!

sigma_105_f1-4artSigma 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art

Pros: Sharpness, blurred by scream, construction solidity and top quality materials.

Cons: If I were to say the weight, I would say nonsense; with this brightness and this build quality, it could not have been otherwise!

Opinion: Fantastic goal. Blurry never seen on other lenses. At full opening it has a frightening quality and engraving. As you move away from the center of the lens, it becomes a little softer (at f. 1.4), but it is its best feature. If you focus on the nearest eye, the blurry that comes soon after, create that magic in the portrait that no other lens can give. I also have canon's Big One which is also a FANTASTIC lens although different from Sigma. The 85 f. 1.2 Canon is slightly less engraved; not that it is a defect is clear, but accustomed me to the 105 f. 1.4 Sigma, the other I feel less desire to use it. Also in focus the Sigma is a little faster than the Big One. In short: as far as I'm concerned, they're the two best portrait focal goals I've ever used. I'd give 9.9 to the Canon and a nice 10 FULL at Sigma!

canon_70-200_f2-8_v2Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM

Pros: Series L... and I said it all!

Cons: Nothing!

Opinion: Precise and fast in focus; with the 1DX Mk II hooks 9 times out of ten even with the points of MaF outside (and I talk about dance photos on stages most of the times dark. A sharp and sparkling blade in detail. Tropicalization. Chromatic yield. Bocke at full-back that makes him rival the best portrait mediums. I mean, the perfect goal. To the comment before mine demolishing it, I suggest trying it with a PRO body like the 1DX or the 1DX Mark II or at least with one of the bodies of the 1D series. Vote 10!

samyang_14Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Aspherical

Pros: Good sharpness already in T.A; from f. 4 onwards a blade! Compact and solid. Cost.

Cons: Plasticosis cap and lamp plug;

Opinion: As far as I'm concerned, that's a very good goal. Fantastic sharpness; holds the backlight well (very little flar) when used at f. 8 practically no matter focusing. I read reviews that are opposite to mine and, while I do not question them at all, they do not agree with what I have experienced on the field. The only sensible answer I can give is that Samyang, as far as this lens is concerned, does not have a uniformity of production. Mine, used on F.F and APSH, give the same results when it comes to sharpness at both edges and center. The focus ring is perfect; too fluid or too little; it's a good feeling in use. I posted in my gallery "Padule" a shot made with EOS 1D Mark IV and I can say that not even the 16/35 f. 2.8 Canon Series I has ever given me similar results. Let me make it clear that I don't think it's the best wide angle around, but at the €180.00 I've been awarded it, I don't think it's a problem if someone tells me that the zeiss pari focale has a few more lines of resolution! if I have to make a lapidary judgment: EXCELLENT! UPDATED as of 17 Jan 2021. I posted in my gallery "Confirmation of Lele" a very banal shot, only for the purpose of pointing out the quality of the lens and how it behaves in very normal work situations. The shooting parameters are found at the bottom of the photo itself and I guarantee the authenticity of the shot. (no crop or processing, no correction of any kind). In my humble opinion his behavior is to be considered excellent and does not disfigure compared to Canon and Sigma ART lenses that I own and much more expensive and famous than this one. This is just to be honest and correct in the information we bring to this forum. Not that I don't believe in the honesty of those who call it "Bottle Bottom", (they probably stumbled upon a wretched copy), but this does not detract from the fact that in general the Samsung 14 mm. f. 2.8 is an excellent wide angle, also in relation to its cost.

canon_1ds3Canon 1Ds Mark III

Pros: Robustness; Workability File; quality 3200 ISO; in short: the fact of being a series 1.

Cons: Only the price at the time of purchase; in 2008 I paid her 8000 Euros.

Opinion: Fantastic device! A tank that, in addition to its robustness, still offers a quality and precision that make it a working tool not yet reached by many other so-called "Pro" devices! As for high ISO noise (depending on the type I use you) its files can be used to all sensitivities! Apart from a few types of sports photos (especially where you need a quick burst), it can be used for ALL sectors of professional work. If we really want to be picky, one thing to count in the "against would be the not really resolute display; once you get used to that of the 1DX Mark II, it becomes difficult to adapt to this. In short: if you find it at the price at which it is on average today (700/800 €) it is not to be missed!

mamiya_rb67prosdMamiya RB67 Pro SD

Pros: Very solid construction, although not quite simple to use. Modularity; very good optics. Mechanical construction that you don't have to any energy source except hand-loaded.

Cons: Weight; Reverse right left view with cockpit.

Opinion: Fantastic professional device. Constructive solidity and a lot of metal make it suitable for intense use on many of the professional photographic occasions. The quality of the slides often makes it a viable alternative to the more complicated mobile-plan devices. The extension of the bellows to mantise makes it suitable even for a quasi-macro. For still life and photos on easel usually to prefer the more emblazoned Hasselblad 500 CM. I have used it for a long time, sometimes also for photography of events, in which, however, it showed its limitations of heavy and bulky equipment. Rating 9.5

canon_speedlite_600exrt_iiCanon Speedlite 600EX II RT

Pros: Robustness, tropicalization, zoom, wide menu and easily searchable, simplified settings with dedicated buttons.

Cons: Price! Too high compared to Chinese competition.

Opinion: I own three that I use for wedding services in church and outdoors with various umbrellas. Simple to use and don't miss a beat. Enough power for most applications. Using them with their own modifier accessories and colored jellies, they absolutely do not make you miss the most expensive studio flash mono torch (of course only for certain types of jobs). If they had the round parable, especially for use as a background light in the laying room, they would be almost perfect.

canon_1d4Canon 1D Mark IV

Pros: Robust body like all 1D; M.A.F; battery life; high I.S.O, very good screen, although not at the level of the 1DX MkII; good dynamic range: in short, reliable.

Cons: I would say nothing considering the year of release, but still today I find it better than the vast majority of DSLRs

Opinion: Found used with about 50K shots. Aesthetically and functionally perfect. The crop factor makes it perfect for sports photo and theater photo. Photographing the essays of the various dance schools with girls starting from the age of three, having a multiplication factor of 1.3 is a boon. Ditto for youth football, where subjects are smaller than adults and having them bigger on the sensor is good thing. What about it? If you find one take it and you won't regret it!

canon_1dx_iiCanon 1DX Mark II

Pros: It's a 1D series. Everything has been designed and designed for absolute perfection!

Cons: I haven't found any yet.

Opinion: Having used the 1DX since 2013, today with the updated version, I am faced with a body that is completely familiar to me and fits perfectly with my type of work. Everything looks the same, but in reality the improvements are remarkable. I'm not going to sit here and list them all. I'm just saying that CANON technicians and engineers have done an outstanding job listening to hundreds of professionals around the world and adapting this efficiency monster to every single photographer who can take advantage of it. I read that someone complains about the weight or the video features; I don't agree with them at all. This is a machine designed for people who want it that way! Weight is a positive and essential feature because every milligram of this device has a very important purpose and mission. Anyone who uses it for the purpose it is intended for, would never work with something tiny and impalpable, much less complain about video features just below the best competition (as long as it is, I don't use it for videos). For the video industry, there are specially designed devices that fall into your hand better than a DSLR does. This tank packed with the best technology in existence was born and designed to be an immortal machine gun and that never jams! The rest are speeches from photo clubs frequented by kids all chatter and badge (cit.)

canon_1ds2Canon 1Ds Mark II

Pros: It's a 1D. Indestructible. FAST and precise AF. Essential in the endowment. Photographic rendering reminiscent of film. Well balanced in the hand despite the weight.

Cons: Small screen and practically useless.

Opinion: Found used with only 11,000 shutter releases and zero wear marks on the body. Perfect aesthetically. Excellent dynamic range. If you know how to use it allows you to make professional images in almost all application areas. Personally I use it for ceremonies and portraiture, both in the studio and outdoors with results not to be believed for the time of its construction. If you find it in good condition at today's prices that do not exceed 300 euros, it is to be taken absolutely. With the shots that mine has, even if I can no longer repair it for lack of spare parts, for what lasts, it is absolutely worth having it. Color note: The "1ds and Mark II Digital" camera front writings are in gold, which meant that at the time of its launch it was the world's top in its industry. At a cost of 8000 euros, they decided to embellish it using even gold for acronyms. Updated on 7/17/2020. Having found a second one practically never used (even the black flash sled has almost no sign of painting), I couldn't help but take it. In these two years, I have preferred it almost always to 1DX (I and II) I confirm all the good I have described and increase the dose. (otherwise I would not have taken the second specimen).

canon_1dxCanon 1DX

Pros: All

Cons: Nothing for me

Opinion: I've been using it since 2013 and, apart from an initial problem on the mirror block (mine is imported directly from Japan) solved with a cost not even so high, it allowed me to make just under a million shots before having to replace the block again mirror and shutter. At this point my faithful workmate is left for who knows how many more hundreds of thousands of shots, all perfect. (If someone wasn't, it's certain that it's my fault)
