Reviews of cameras, lenses, tripods, heads and other accessories written by Davide Bonfanti

Pros: Autonomy, display, camera (with lots of light), fluidity of the operating system

Cons: Camera with artificial light, size

Opinion: I bought this smartphone two years ago now attracted by rave reviews about photo quality. In full light I have to admit that the photographs are very beautiful, sharp and contrasted (although slightly yellowish). As the light falls, the problems begin. My specimen completely busts the balance of white and even in manual mode you can not get decent shots. The shots are in fact heavily yellow, to the point of being irretrievable and therefore unusable. I don't know if this is due to the sensor matrix (RYYB, where green sub-pixels are replaced by yellow sub-pixels) or an unfortunate specimen, from my point of view I was rather disappointed with the photographic quality. Beyond this aspect, the autonomy is really great, the fluidity impeccable and the display looks like a TV! Regarding the size it is a really bulky smartphone, it is an aspect that must be taken into account before purchase.

fujifilm_35mmFujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 R

Pros: Yield, absurd sharpness even at TA, brightness, wonderful bokeh, beautiful lampshade

Cons: Parlaluce not comfortable (albeit wonderful), AF not as fast as other Fujifilm optics

Opinion: I bought this lens attracted by the focus and especially the brightness. I also enjoyed the yield, really very high. The sharpness is excellent already at 1.4, closing slightly becomes superb even at the edges. Blurring is something magical, wonderful, almost dreamlike. In the out-of-focus areas you can see really particular, beautiful shades of color. About the construction is very well made, metal with a lampshade as beautiful (we can call it vintage) as uncomfortable at certain times. About autofocus definitely is not an ultra fast target, in this the F2 is definitely better. With the X-T3 I honestly can not complain, it is quite accurate but not a splinter. It's also quite noisy. Pulling the sums, I am really happy with this goal, I think should not miss in any Fuji kit!

fujifilm_10-24oisFujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS

Pros: Focus, versatility, sharpness, build quality, stabilization.

Cons: Manual focus is not 100% perfect.

Opinion: I bought this lens because in my previous kit the preferred lens was the Sigma 10-20, so the choice was very easy. I have to say that I'm finding myself really well, the focal excursion is very comfortable and versatile, it does not force you to constantly change goal. The image quality is in my opinion excellent at any focal point, churning out very sharp photographs (except at the edges at full opening, where it loses something as it is physiological that it is). The build quality is excellent, like most Fuji targets. Stabilization is also excellent, in case of low light it is a godsend given that the maximum aperture is F4. The only new focus manual in case of very low brightness, in my specimen not absolutely perfect and that requires an extra step of attention (but the electronic aids of the camera come to the rescue). In conclusion, I can only recommend this lens for those who love landscape and architecture photography, you will not regret it at all!

fujifilm_xt3Fujifilm X-T3

Pros: Wonderful aesthetics, great sensor, lightning autofocus, even jpg image quality, EVF viewfinder, performance in general.

Cons: Battery life not great.

Opinion: In my short review I would start from the first thing that impressed me about this camera: it is really beautiful and built impeccably. However, since it is not a piece of furniture, in addition to aesthetics, the substance must also be evaluated, and in this case there is plenty of it. The sensor is really great, the image quality is remarkable (also thanks to Fuji optics, all of them level) and the isO high hold more than good to be an APS-C. The autofocus is lightning fast and even the tracking works satisfactorily, the percentage of wrong shots is very low. The electronic viewfinder is excellent, very fluid and defined. The jpg churned out by the machine are already excellent and ready to use, in case the RAF are very flexible and allow you to recover so much from the shadows. The only downside of this X-T3 is the not exceptional battery life compared to a reflex, on the other hand the electronics have a heavy impact on the range. Given all the writing, I can only recommend this machine that I consider (and not only me, just do a little web search) the best APS-C currently on the market.

fujifilm_18-55oisFujifilm XF 18-55 f/2.8-4R LM OIS

Pros: Solidity and construction, autofocus, sharpness, value for money

Cons: Nothing particularly relevant

Opinion: Very solid and robust lens, with impeccable construction. It has absolutely nothing to do with the classic plastic kit lenses from the brightness, from 2.8 to the minimum focal to 4 to the maximum focal. The image quality is very high, the autofocus more than good (probably also of the X-T3). Too bad the lack of references on the diaphragm diaphragm dial, motivated by the maximum opening not fixed on the entire focal excursion. The images produced by this lens in my opinion are more than good, even the sharpness is great at all focal points (clearly loses something at full opening but nothing too relevant). In conclusion, given the numerous pros, the absence of major defects and given the price at which it is offered in kit, I consider this 18-55 a really good lens and I do not feel the need to make an upgrade at all.

fujifilm_55-200oisFujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS

Pros: Image quality, sharpness, size, construction, stabilizer

Cons: Lack of numbered diaphragms

Opinion: Very solid and at the same time light goal, built to perfection like any Fuji lens (sin the unnumbered diaphragm diaphragm diaphragms) diaphragm). Quite small in size given the focal excursion, you can safely use it even during long walks without having to suffer the neck. Image quality really great, sharp and well contrasted. Autofocus very good, responsive and fast (I paired it with an X-T3, probably the credit is also of the machine). Excellent stabilizer, sprinting quietly under 1/30 without any problem whatsoever. The bokeh is also very good, I have to admit that, although it is not a specialist optics, it defends well also as a portrait lens. I also used it to make some macros and I was satisfied with it (clearly it is not a microscope, but for macro pushes you obviously need dedicated goals). For a generalist use I can only recommend this goal, I am finding myself really well and I recommend it to anyone interested in these focal points, you will not be disappointed.

tamron_70-300vcTamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD

Pros: Exceptional stabilizer, excellent optical rendering at almost all focal lengths, fast and accurate autofocus, great value for money.

Cons: Sharpness not excellent at 300mm

Opinion: I think this is the best value for money zoom ever. It has a really high performance stabilizer, an optical rendering and really good sharpness (except at 300mm and at full aperture), the autofocus is fast, precise and silent. Anyone who wants to enter the world of zoom should not get away this goal, much better than the version from 100 and a few euros (does its duty eh, but the difference is abysmal). I really struggled to find flaws in this lens, except the already mentioned softness at the extreme focal lengths. Definitely recommended, it is one of the first lenses that you have to buy to enlarge your outfit.

sigma_10-20_f3-5Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM

Pros: Build quality, focal range, sharpness, very fast focus, good brightness

Cons: A little too soft to TA especially on the edges

Opinion: I have acquired this lens in order to enlarge (in the true sense of the word) my horizons from the photographic point of view. In this it is a lens with a very good focal range, for nothing limiting in landscape photography. The quality in my opinion is great, the construction more than solid, the focus is fast and quiet, the sharpness very good (except to TA and on the extreme edges). I have chosen this lens compared to its competitors because I think the right compromise between focal range, brightness and value for money, I am very satisfied!

nikon_35dxNikon AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8 G

Pros: Sharpness, brightness, cost, compactness and lightness

Cons: The distance scale for manual focusing is missing

Opinion: I've been using this lens for a couple of months now and I'm very happy with it. Nitidissimo, bright, compact, light and cheap! Autofocus is fast enough and works well. I think it's a lens that anyone with a Nikon DX camera body should have in their own kit. The only missing is the distance scale for manual focusing, but given the price you can forgive without problems!

tamron_70-300macroTamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro

Pros: Exceptional value for money

Cons: Not excellent sharpness, slow and noisy autofocus

Opinion: I believe this zoom lens needs to be contextualized. With just over 100 € we bring home a zoom with a focal length of 70 - 300 with autofocus and Macro. Given the negligible cost, it is normal to have to take into account some limitations, such as a not exceptional sharpness especially around 300mm, or an autofocus anything but immediate (but quite accurate). rnWith a little 'commitment and practice you can get very good results, you need fast shutter speeds, steady hand and a lot of patience! rnChi wants to expand its photographic possibilities finds in this lens an excellent compromise between quality and price!

nikon_d3400Nikon D3400

Pros: Small size, photographic quality, cost / performance, ease of use, battery life

Cons: Snapbridge a bit 'limited view of the absence of WiFi

Opinion: It is a SLR of fairly small size (little more than a mirrorless), excellent value for money, simple enough to use and that, despite being an entry level, can give a lot of satisfaction thanks to the high quality of the images that you can produce.rnNaturally you need a little 'familiarity with manual commands and raw processing, relying simply to the Auto mode is not achieved much.rnExcellent also the battery life. Only against that I have found is the Snapbridge app, a little cumbersome and limited by the lack of WiFi connection.
