Wally, thank you for feedback! Maybe the lens you are using play a big role, because of light weight and no extender also. Another thing birds are very shy, especially raptors.

Abdallah, The 400 5.6 is an excellent birding lens, even without IS. It is easy to handle and quick to AF. I shoot everything hand held and do pretty well as long as I keep the SS up. Of course it's somewhat limited in low light conditions, like right now in the middle of winter. And yes the extender will probably slow things down bit and may take the edge off sharpness with some lenses. Good talking to you. Wally
