Char Kaliganj a Dhaka, slum e sede di uno dei cantieri navali più grandi dell'Asia. Una città-labirinto fatta di giganti scheletri di vecchie navi, che forniscono lavoro a circa 15 mila anime che lavorano sia per abbatterle, sia per creare nuove navi con le parti recuperate. L'età dei lavoratori varia da 8 a 80 e tutti lavorano insieme. Il lavoro è duro, sporco e pericoloso, ma dà a migliaia di lavoratori un salario per sfamare le proprie famiglie. Amir (11) lavora qui da quando ne aveva 7 producendo eliche di navi con il bronzo liquido ottenuto dalla fusione degli scarti delle vecchie eliche: "Sono nato qui e lavoro qui tutti i giorni. Per me non esistono ferie o vacanze, e talvolta mi mancano la scuola e gli amici, ma è il mio lavoro. Aiuto e mi prendo cura della mia famiglia e sono orgoglioso di poter aiutare mio padre a pagare l'agente che ci ha dato il prestito per comprare una casa".
