La chiesa di San Lorenzo, nel comune di Saliceto (CN), è uno dei quattro gioielli del Rinascimento in Piemonte, insieme all'Assunta di Roccaverano, al San Giovanni di Torino e al San Sebastiano di Biella. I lavori della nostra Chiesa iniziarono nei primi anni del 1500, su disegno di scuola bramantesca, voluta dal Cardinale-Marchese Carlo Domenico Del Carretto della casata di Finale, amico del Papa Giulio II, del re di Francia Luigi XII e, probabilmente, di Leonardo da Vinci durante i suoi soggiorni presso la corte francese. La facciata offre, all'esterno, una struttura, una ricchezza di simboli non riscontrabile nelle altre 3 facciate (il Duomo di Torino e le chiese di Roccaverano e Biella) in quanto realizzata interamente in pietra arenaria, docile allo scalpello, ma altrettanto arrendevole al degrado atmosferico. Mirabilmente scolpita, presenta molteplici e raffinate figurazioni decorative a bassorilievo, spiccano sirene dal seno scoperto, salamandre (ritenute un animale ignifugo), l'araba fenice, il pellicano che nutre i propri piccoli con il suo sangue, un angioletto che emerge dal Graal, lo stemma nobiliare di Carlo del Carretto sormontato dal cappello cardinalizio. E poi ancora, a sottolineare la continuità di una conoscenza misteriosa di impronta medioevale, il cavallo alato e la rosa alchemica a 5 petali, la celebre rosa a spirale, rose a cui nel corso dei secoli sono stati attribuiti una miriade di simboli pagani e cristiani. Un rarissimo esemplare di “Bafometto” (l'idolo che i templari erano accusati di adorare) esattamente come descritto da Guglielmo da Nogaret, gran cancelliere del re di Francia e loro massimo accusatore: enormi baffi e zampe da caprone. Da evidenziare, inoltre, un probabile Ermete Trismegisto, unico in tutta Europa, su entrambe le “colonne” ai lati della porta di ingresso. Il campanile nacque abbellito da un'artistica guglia ottagonale, immagine della salvezza, mentre due bifore, immediatamente sotto alla cella campanaria, rendevano leggiadra la massiccia torre quadrata. Purtroppo, un fulmine ne atterrò la cuspide, così le finestre vennero chiuse e il campanile innalzato. La nuova piramide, ancora ottagonale, ebbe un artistico aspetto rinascimentale. Nel 1926, un secondo ciclone si abbattè sul campanile, per cui il parroco Don Gioachino Serraglia lo fece coprire, così mozzo, con un tetto di tegole. In tale occasione si costruirono comode scale interne, si rifuse una delle tre campane e se ne acquistò una quarta di Mg.80. Nel 1992 sono state donate alla parrocchia quattro nuove campane che l'arciprete Don Domenico Prandi benedisse solennemente il 12 luglio dello stesso anno: si inserirono con quelle già esistenti formando così un concerto di notevole armoniosità e bellezza.
