I really like this, Tim - it's one of those images that has much appeal and I keep seeing new things that I like about it! It has a warmth and friendliness to it, a real 'feel good' factor. Thank you Ann. I only had an hour with him as he had to go to church near where he lives, which is in the East End. But I hadn't seen him since his sister's wedding so it was great to catch up. Des was unavailable as not did he have a double dose of church, he was on Radio Harrow being interviewed! |

I was at one end of run party at his theatre a few years ago - he would insist that it's all am-dram and that he would be talking about the theatre company and only about him if specifically asked. It's also based in the burbs (Wembley) and I have already worked out a long time ago that I cannot see a play, get to the underground and back to Waterloo in time for the last train home. This is his passion, of which I take only a casual interest in - in the same way that he only takes a casual interest in my photos. (ie he looks at them on Juza if and when he remembers)
The theatre company also has their own amateur photographer member who is quite possessive about his role, which is understandable and I would never wish to tread on toes, however theatrical those toes might be! |

I would also have to buy a ticket - they actually do sell most of their seats and Des realises that ordinary folks like me would prefer a professional performance nearer home or in central London. I think he would find it rather freaky if I followed his 'career' to such a fanatical degree if I saw all his plays. He's also on their committee and so is always involved in something, from set design and making, tending the bar in shows he's not in and of course, the odd local radio broadcast. When he moved to London from Southampton (where I knew him from) he knew just one person and had no social life - so it's great he's carved out this niche for himself. He also has to learn lines, which takes longer than us lot think!
I haven't seen a play or show in west End London for over ten years - either far too expensive and/or not something I'd spend precious time and money on in London. |

When my son first finished training to work backstage, he worked on several smaller productions in central London, so I was fortunate enough to get the occasional complimentary ticket. I always have to pay for big West End shows though, so they are a rarity! |
