The Portrait...

London - Street Shots

The Portrait sent on January 13, 2016 (7:13) by Timk2. 26 comments, 1804 views. [retina]

at 105mm, 1/40 f/3.2, ISO 800, hand held. London, United Kingdom.

On the dark very rainy miserable late afternoon that I shot the Regents Street Christmas peacock lights, whilst I was waiting for the right time to shoot that, this striking portrait looked straight out at me. It is shot at an angle, through the glass of the gallery window, the perspective I have not tried to correct, but I did clone out the label to the bottom left, on the wall (which in comparison was a tiny size). So tiny, however much I enlarged it and sharpened it, I could not make out what the title is or who the artist is. Likewise, I looked at the signature bottom right of the painting, but again, it was just too unclear. So, my mysterious portrait sitter remains an enigma. I rather like her fixed gaze, not cold, nor welcoming but really rather beautiful.

Great photo of a lovely work of art! I don't recognise the style, so I have no idea who the artist may be....

I've just noticed that this is your 1000th image - congratulations, Tim! :))

Thank you Ann.

I edited this shot to email to my friend Des and a couple of others but hadn't intended to post here. At the last moment I did but the text I eventually added was in my email to him but I couldn't access it straight away and I was late for the first bus back to Downton, for some (frosty) sunrise shots on the Avon (same location as the mono Cloudbursting). I didn't post the final image and presumed it hadn't been published!

Anyway, it had been and now I'm glad of it, I still think it's a beautiful enigma of a portrait. And I got some great travel tripod bound pre and sunrise shots on the Avon - the floods have subsided a little. I've been wanting to get some starry night shots too, but it was just too windy last night - doesn't necessarily affect the photo but the added chill factor affects me!

Yes it is - well done for noticing - thanks!

I'm glad you had a good morning - it really was beautiful, although I nearly missed it - not any significant frost here yet though.
I'm out this evening but look forward to seeing your early morning images when you post them!
Have a good evening!

It wasn't as frosty as forecast, admittedly, Ann, have a good evening and I'm out again for sunrise again, the last day of my week long bus ticket.
