Interesting point shooting. Hello

Ah, you have posted something up! I kept checking... Nice image, good viewpoint though I might have tried to darken the top edge a little - I like the out of focus bridge too. As I said, nice. In the nicest possible way do I mean 'nice'!

Thanks very much, Luigi! I really appreciate your comment!

Thanks very much, Tim! I've taken a little while to respond to your comment because I've been experimenting. My first thought was 'Maybe but how do I darken the top edge?' Well, I tried picking a dark colour from the tree and applying it with a brush (I only really discovered the brush tool yesterday), with only very mediocre success. Then I tried a soft vignette, which, of course, went right round the image. Now I'm not a big fan of vignettes but I have to say that, as I'd kept it discreet, it was very successful, drawing attention to the large golden leaf. I don't know whether this was what you had in mind, Tim, but thanks for prompting me to think in a different way!

It wasn't but adding a vignette can really help to draw attention to a subject in the middle - our eyes are drawn in. It can be overdone, like anything, of course but I do use it quite a lot. I suspect my system is different to yours as I don't have Lightroom.

By the way, I hope you didn't see my Halloween image up from the weekend and that you didn't see what I get up to in my 'quieter' moments...

I wasn't aware that you use it a lot, so you obviously use it well! It is the fact that is so often overdone and applied in such a way that, for me, it draws attention away from the image and so has rather put me off using one.

I did see your image but please excuse me for not commenting. I'm sure you will understand when I say that Halloween is not something that I give any attention to.

Halloween is something I rather dislike too, its American commercialism is what I hate the most. You get messages saying 'Happy Halloween' but with scary this and that....But if I had said 'here is yet another shot of a rock band, then I would have wasted an opportunity that most do take some notice of. I went for the music, not the other but I wanted a strong image etc etc.

I hate that something which is in essence so dark is celebrated and that it is masqueraded as fun.
I'm very pleased to hear that you are not a fan, Tim.

I don't think it should be taken quite so seriously either Ann. But we are all different of course. I'll bid you sweet dreams, now.
