The very high iso figure and wide open aperture has spoiled rather a very nice church interior. You could have used a much slower shutter speed - from my experience with this lens that nothing wider than f4 should be used, as you can see the corners are very soft.

You are, of course, right, Tim but but with no tripod, no flash and severe time constraints (on an organised excursion which, in fact, left the cathedral before the arranged time without me!), I didn't know how to achieve the best results.

Well, flash, obviously not (wouldn't have done the job and is usually forbidden as it can damage delicate old artifacts), tripod not also, usually because they are a hazard to other people, so your best bet would have been a camera programme that allowed 1/10 th or 1/15th second exposure, taking a deep breath and that would have allowed, a much less compromising iso 3200 and f4. You shouldn't get camera shake at 10mm at those speeds if you take care and take a little time (don't jab the shutter). Manually focus too as in low light, cameras get a bit confused. All this comes from experience, of course.

Thanks, Tim. I'll aim to try those settings out next time I'm in a similar situation.

Each situation will be different of course. I meant to add, take a few at such a scene, hedging your bets, so to speak. You could also find some extra sharpening in editing afterwards useful.

Thanks. I always take multiple shots in such situations (indeed, I take multiple shots most of the time!) but most of the ones I took here had people in them. I'm not sure whether I applied extra sharpening though.

I don't think the focus is quite 'there' on this one and so it wouldn't be possible to sharpen it up satisfactorily. Some folk just don't get it that you no software can create detail that was never there, though!

All the suggestions That Tim has given you are correct and very useful. Stll, in the case of this photo, That I like a lot for the subject so rich in details and for its impressive symmetry, I think That it can still be something done to improve it. I have tried and this is the result.

Seeing it here, maybe there is too much sharpening now. Let's Say That an alternative between your version and mine would be the best thing.

Thank you very much, Soriana, for taking the time to take a closer look at my image and ways to improve it! I do think your version is an improvement. Did you just apply sharpening or did you employ any other techniques?

First of all I lightened it up with light / shadows then I applied the High Pass Filter (Radius 3) with Soft Light. Then I have warmed up a little the colors. That's all. Bye.

I'm glad others were able to help you here, Ann and to back up what I had said too, of course! I wanted to reiterate about using the 10-24mm at f3.5 and that when focussed correctly, its image is sharp in the centre and across most of the frame and only in the corners is it less so. It's because yours here wasn't focussed exactly, do the corners look so wildly soft. By f4 though for all intents and purposes even the corners (except perhaps the very far extremes) are good enough. Just wanted to defend the quality of this (generally) fabulous lens, in writing!
