World War II 'Pill Box' sent on August 05, 2015 (11:41) by Timk2. 16 comments, 1492 views. [retina]

at 330mm, 1/800 f/6.3, ISO 100,

These gunnery outlook posts are all over key points in the south and east of England. Fondly called 'pillboxes' due to their shape. This one on a long hill, there were several others along this hill. Left stranded in a wheat field, now. Vignette and graduated sky added in editing, not a consequence of the lens. Colours left muted, shot with equivalent of 600mm, as this blends the pale weathered bricks better in with the harvested field. Monopod used.

Beautiful contrast between the pillbox and the harvested corn field. End editing for a nice picture.

Thank you Tan. Yes, some effort gone into finalising this image, but worth it. Cheers!

I don't know why but for me this is somehow fascinating. Is it the composition or the history (or together) which makes that feeling. Anyway, great shot. I like very much. SorrisoSorriso

Nice shot I like the dried up Mullein flower spikes.

Thank you Clive. I'm glad you named the flower spikes - yes, they add to the desolate feel, my composition cropped much of the rest of the pillbox to include these spikes. If you are interested, these are on Dean Hill, near Salisbury, on the Wiltshire/Hampshire border.

Thank you Jypka. These boxes do have history, a human history and now they just sit there, often overgrown and abandoned.
