Farfalla detta Occhio di Pavone(Inachis Io)Linneo 1758,e' una ben nota colorata farfalla della famiglia delle Nymphalidae,abitante delle zone temperate che comprende L'Europa e L'Asia,e' l'unica specie del genere Inachis da alcuni autori considerato sinonimo di Nymphalis,il suo epiteto fa riferimento a Io sacerdotessa di Giunone dalla leggendaria bellezza.Larva:il bruco e' di colore nero brillante con una serie di puntini bianchi,su ogni segmento fornito di sei file di aculei dorsali.Crisalide?Adulto ha una apertura alare sino a 60-70mm la superficie dorsale delle ali e' di colore rosso mattone con bordi tendenti al brunastro ,gli angoli sono ornati da 4 vistose macchie variopinte a forma di occhio.Queste macchie sono dette ocelli hanno una funzione protettiva contro i predatori,la superficie ventrale e' invece di un colore brunastro-nero che ne' facilita' il mimetismo.Habitat:in Italia e' presente in quasi tutte le regioni,si spinge fino ai 2500 m, la si trova anche in Giappone.
