Il Capriolo, come altri cervidi, sfrutta la particolare colorazione del mantello dei piccoli per nasconderli in mezzo alla vegetazione. Durante la maggior parte del giorno i piccoli, perfettamente mimetizzati, vengono lasciati soli e la madre torna da loro soltanto per allattarli. In caso di parti gemellari, la madre nasconde i nuovi nati in luoghi separati. Questa strategia ha lo scopo di non rivelare ad eventuali predatori la presenza e i nascondigli dei piccoli caprioli.
