Stavamo inseguendo il Leopardo da 3 giorni avendo come guida un esperto ranger del parco del Kruger e stavamo cercando nelle zone battute nei pochi giorni antecedenti ma senza mai avere la fortuna di vederlo. Avevamo trascorso 6 giorni interi al parco e stavo iniziando a rassegnarmi all'idea di non riuscire a fotografarlo dopo averlo visto di sfuggita proprio il primo giorno, poco dopo aver varcato i cancelli di ingresso. In quella occasione era riparato nel letto di un torrentello e quando era uscito era coperto da arbusti e ramoscelli vari e quindi non fotografabile. Alla sera quando tornavamo alla base c'era sempre qualcuno che raccontava di aver visto qualche leopardo tanto da aver temporaneamente soprannominato una via del parco "Giacomo Leopardi", proprio per la facilità di avvistamento... ma noi nulla. Il regalo arrivò proprio all'ultimo giorno, all'improvviso la guida ferma il veicolo, e con la mano ce lo indica; lui era lì, che ci fissava, in silenzio e con molta curiosità. Siamo rimasti così, per qualche minuto abbondante, a goderci questa meravigliosa apparizione. Ricordo come fosse adesso l'immensa gioia provata nell'essere riuscito a fotografarlo!!
