È un fatto ormai noto agli ornitologi che l'innalzamento delle temperature stanno spingendo sempre più a nord le colonie di Falco naumanni. i colpi di calore nelle nidiate sono responsabili di numerose perdite tra i pulli anche perchè rende indispensabile forzare la termoventilazione con il battito delle ali che costringe gli adulti ad una presenza costante al nido. Attualmente Il Tavoliere delle Puglie è l'area maggiormente interessata all'espansione di questa specie, anche per via della presenza di molti abitazioni rurali abbandonate, specialmente grandi masserie dove si possono contare fino a 100 coppie, ed è ancora più interessante la convivenza e la competizione con specie autoctone ( maggiormente Taccole e Colombacci). Questa immagine( notate l'intruso) è testimonianza di un comportamento usuale del Falco grillaio. Il tavoliere subisce forti inversioni termiche tra giorno e notte. Le temperature notturne sono piuttosto fredde e al mattino la colonia cerca di occupare posizioni dove potersi scaldare. In questo spesso competono con le taccole che al sopraggiungere della luce allontanano i piccoli rapaci per prenderne il posto.
