In tanti anni e decine di giornate di safari, non mi era mai capitato di vedere un leopardo ai Gol Kopjes: nei giorni precedenti avevamo visto lo stesso esemplare trai trami intricatissimi di un acacia a poceh decine di metri dalla roccia e lo abbiamo ritrovato in una cavità tra i massi granitici. Purtoppo, quando stava prendendo confidenza e stava uscendo per mostrare tutto il suo splendore, due maschi di leone anno pensato bene di cercare un po' di ombra proprio tra quelle stesse rocce mettendo in fuga il leoaprdo che ha fatto marcia indietro uscendo da dietro a quei massi... Nei giorni successi abbiamo provato a cercarlo piùvolte ma non siamo più riusciti a vederlo. Era più di un ora che giravamo senza trovare nulla di particolarmente interessante e poi, nel raggio di 100 metri c'erano il leopardo, due maschi di leone ed una coppia di leoni in attesa di accoppiarsi...
