Leica Hektor 2.5/85 projection lens sent on October 18, 2023 (0:23) by Warszawski. 27 comments, 481 views. [retina]

1/160 f/2.5, ISO 100, hand held.

Leica Hektor 2.5/85 projection lens used in Leica Prado slide projectors. I bought it for 25 euros and adapted it to work with the Sony A7. It is worth adding that the optical system of this lens is identical to the Leica Thambar 90mm f2.2 lens, the price of which is approximately EUR 6,000. This Hector projector lens has no aperture, of course, but with the Thambar lens everyone uses an aperture of 2.2 and even uses the included filter to blur the image even more. My current profile photo is also taken with this set (the mirror in the stairwell)

Interesting, I've never used projection lenses, not having an aperture they should be more complicated to use, nice test, hello Warszawsky!
On the other hand, they make a very nice blur !

The Leica Thambar-M 90 mm f/2.2 is a reference to the model presented in the mid-1930s. The new version does not differ in optical structure from its predecessor. The name comes from the Greek word "thambo", meaning "blurred", and the whole charm of this lens, i.e. romantic photos and Hollywood portraits, takes place at an aperture of 2.2, and you pay 6,000 euros for it. Additionally, the lens has a point filter, i.e. glass with a dark dot in the middle, which further blurs the image. The Hector projection has the same optical design and similar brightness, so the aperture is unnecessary if we want to enjoy similar charms as its brother Leica Thambar. This cannot be achieved with a regular Hektor Leica 13.5cm/4.5 Hektor lens. By the way, old analog photographers put a women's stocking on the lens and achieved a similar effect. Sorry for such a long entry, thank you for your visit and comment, best regards

my little bit of adhesive tape for connecting the lens to the camera is not as good as your "V-andalo" sunny tracks :-) Thank you very much for your nice post and visit, have a nice afternoon
