Il Rynek, cioè la Piazza del Mercato, è il luogo principale di Wrocław ed è senza dubbio il cuore pulsante della città. E' la seconda piazza più grande della Polonia (la prima è quella di Cracovia), ed è una delle più grandi e più belle d'Europa; risale al medioevo in quanto realizzata nel XIII secolo; è circondata da 60 antiche case di famiglie borghesi e di mercanti cittadini, bellissimi edifici storici caratterizzati da una incredibile varietà di stili architettonici. Ciascuno di essi ha un nome tradizionale spesso collegato allo stemma presente sulla facciata o alla storia che l'ha caratterizzata.
