Santa Cruz de Mompox, Colombia - Bellissima cittadina che ha conservato il suo stile coloniale. Si trova sull'isola Margarita, un'isola situata all'incrocio fra i fiumi Magdalena e Cauca, vive principalmente sul turismo, di pesca e allevamento di bestiame. L'eroe sudamericano Simón Bolívar, il liberatore di gran parte del Sud America, disse di questa cittadina: «Se a Caracas devo la vita, a Mompox devo la gloria». Mompox, infatti, nel 1812 diede a Bolivar il primo nucleo di circa 400 uomini (quasi tutti coloro abili alle armi) che formarono la base di quell'esercito che sarebbe poi risultato vittorioso a Caracas. La navigazione sul fiume Magdalena è semplicemente una bellissima esperienza rilassante ed eccitante insieme: ricchissima di fauna soprattutto volatili, ma sulle rive o rintanati sugli alberi si possono vedere anche serpenti come i boa arrotolati sui rami ad esempio; qualche scimmia e una vegetazione straordinariamente florida e varia. Ma è soprattutto la sintonia tra chi abita il fiume e le sue mille rientranze a colpire: uomini, donne, ragazzini (imparano a pagaiare già da piccoli) che si muovono in canoa e giocano nel fiume che diventa anche motivo di divertimento oltre che di sostentamento. Il rientro a Mompox quando ormai il sole è tramontato rivela una cittadina viva, gioiosa e affascinante con i suoi locali ed abitazioni affacciati sul fiume.
