Soggetto classico ma sempre interessante da fotografare; La cova in bocca è molto diffusa tra i pesci , raramente è la femmina che adempie al compito di trasportare le uova durante il periodo di incubazione, di solito invece è solo il maschio a svolgere questi compiti. Generalmente la femmina rilascia una massa di uova vicino al maschio prescelto e dopo che il maschio avrà fecondato le uova, le prenderà in bocca per trasportarle durante il periodo di incubazione fino a quando gli avannotti non saranno pronti a schiudersi. Il maschio generalmente non sarà in grado di mangiare durante questo periodo di incubazione ed aprirà la bocca principalmente per ruotare la massa di uova e per mantenerle pulite e aerate.
